Sensor out should never come on if I recall correctly. I know when it is unplugged it won't come on at all.

Sounds like bad oil pump, clogged pickup, badly dented oil pan, to the worst cases spun bearing or cracked crank.

Two things come to mind, 1 of which is gonna make you say wtf, but i have personally experienced both.

1. As stated, oil pump can be going out, clogged etc.

2. Alternator, yes alternator. There is a dioad in it that goes out and causes the oil light to flash, sometimes other weird electrical issues.

Put a mechanical oil pump gage on the car and see what your oil pressure is. If its good when the light is coming on the id look into alt or possibly oil pressure sending unit.. If it is indeed low, oil pump system. I put a t fitting between block and oil pressure sending unit, that way i know both units are receiving same pressure.
Good luck, post back with your findings.

Souds liek interrnal loss of pressure to me. If this were to occur while at idle then your vtec woudl stil work as the pressur increases with rpm. I would be checkign the oil pressure at idle with a pressure gauge and then going form there.

Any tiem the oil light comes on and flashes it means you are expereicnes momentary loss in oil pressure. If the sensor is fucked then the oil light would come on and stay on.

If it is flashing quickly with no pattern to it then you have oil presssure loss.

Sounds like you have a wire connection issue, considering vtec is still working and vtec pressure has a lower threshold.

I would check the connection on the oil sending unit. Some times it gets moisture and it doesnt get good contact. This has happened to me and a few of my friends.

Like they said, it could be a sensor or bad connection. Check the connection and try putting some dielectric grease on the plug.

How old is the oil? Filter?
What type?
Sounds right about confirming you have pressure first. It's good to know what's going on in the motor even if it is just a loose wire on the sensor
