Hi im looking to buy a 2002 Civic EX 5-speed. The dealer has it marked for 3000. I know that Honda had problems with their trannys during these years but it is a standard should I still be worried? The car has 176,000 miles and has no rust anywhere. What are some things that I should look for. It has brand new brakes all around and is promised to pass NH state inspection, as it comes with 20 day plates.

How much are these going for now, I have checked NADA, Edmonds, KBB, but to me these are just for the dealers.

I bought my 02 ex for $3450. I have approx 124K. My car was jumping out of second gear every great once in awhile. I serviced the gearbox and it hasn't done it since.....I buy Honda transmissions for our shop from H&A transmissions. wwwhnatrans.com they are pretty awesome to work with.....no issues for us ever.....

 

thanks for the reply. I just went and test drove the civic and the only thing I noticed was a looping idle. there was also a little rust on the rocker. and at 50 mph the car was running at 2500 rpms is this normal.

 

Would have to check that......I know at 80 I turn 3500 rpm's..........

 

yes, 2500rpms is normal. at 65mph i am at around 3200.

 

Manual transaxles only had problems in the first six months or so of mass production in the 2001 model year.
