Carbon Fiber Hoods
I am considering getting a carbon fiber hood. The paint on my metal hood is bad and the choice is painting it or going with a carbon fiber one. I am considering VIS or Seibon. I would appreciate any opinions on these. I have done searches and it seems that some like them and some don't. I have no experience with carbon fiber and I am looking for advice.
You'll probably like the carbon fiber, But even with big names most parts are usually off on the fitment and have small imperfections, but not always the case!. All in all it'd be a good buy.
forgot to add that if you park outside, IMO Don't consider cf then because the up keep is alot of work to keep it looking good in most situations.

If I were you i'd keep the stock hood, just go get it painted.
carbon fiber hood = no resale value because usually the stock hood gets trashed or sold...
carbon fiber hoods look like rice imo also. kinda like getting cheap body kits.

I like the idea of saving some weight, but I have seen pics of the carbon fiber hoods that have been scratched, some were cracked, and some yellowed. I don't think I want something high maintenance. I don't know anyone who has owned one, so maybe I am being too critical. Maybe not.
my cf hood was cheaper than a new OEM one so i went with it. fitment is a little off in some spots. i'm getting a little tired of the look so i'm having it painted with the rest of the car.

Carbon fiber hoods are cool if they're not poorly manufacture, seen too many bad fitment run of the mill crap rock by all of these high school kids in my area.
Its true that the oe hood is very good, and a waste to replace in most cases. But composite hoods have their place. They are much lighter and custom fit to whatever you need. For certain setups and all kinds of racecars its the way to go.
10 years ago my friends and I all ran VIS hoods (on various cars) and the fitment was very good... not perfect tho. We cleared ours right off the bat and waxed them frequently, but then we got tired of them after about a year and either sold or painted them.
In high school (circa '05ish) some rowdy friends ruined my straight oem hood. I did some amateur body work and shot it flat black. Then the car went under the knife and replacing the hood kept getting pushed to the bottom of the list, while I pieced it back together in the garage. Before the car hits the road this spring I'd like to step up to a Seibon piece.
I'd heard of troublesome upkeep of exterior carbon fiber. Ideally I'd like to color match it to the rest of the car, but won't bother dropping the cash until I commit to the cars color change. Hopefully regular upkeep will keep the finish intact until that time comes.

I have a VIS cf hood on my EM1, and personally, I love it although the previous owner painted it flat black. As for fitment, it has a tad more space between the driver's side fender than on the opposite side.
thinking about trading it to a stock hood though, to be honest.
