Icon2 B series tranny question

So I have a b18b, n/a, with a s80 tranny non lsd for the ls. It's in perfect condition as it has 80 000km, it's fun and feels relatively short gears. Was just wondering are there ( probably if I look ) tranny with shorter gears or quicker? Or any preferable trannys people use with non boosted b18's lol.

Short is relative. You can go much shorter than the stock B16/ITR/CTR gearing while also bringing the gears closer.

B16A/CTR/ITR 3/4/5: 1.458/1.107/.848.

MFactory Road/Race close gear set (these are the longest ratios in the series, there are two additional shorter ratios for each gear, fifth has even more options): 1.636/1.313/1.000.

Hmm...you have a decently geared trans already so I would go with a lighter flywheel and a 4.9 final drive. (shorter and quicker)

Find ya a gsr tranny if you want a good all around tranny. I just bought a type r tranny to get even shorter gears because I plan to track my hatch.

As mentioned above a new final drive would prob be your cheapest option.

haven't messed anything with gears; i'm still learnin **** lol. What exactly is final drive? 5th gear? or the dif?(yes I will be reading on stuff later haha) al though i was asking for shorter, faster, i wouldn't like a high revving last gear i think, just for highway sakes lol.

I most likely will just get a lighter flywheel when I install a new clutch kit, but i was just curious as to what has shorter, ( maybe even closer ) ratio. Or maybe I should get a grasp on this and figure it out myself as what I'd really like. Anyway, my gears are pree short, kinda seems like a gap between first n 2nd, 2-3 seems close, 4 semi, and 5th rank low. I like 4-5th, lol, which trans is "faster" for 1-2 maybe even 3rd. I guess higher up number = more teeth n accelerates quicker?

i have personally rebuilt numerous b series transmissions and swapped gears around to try and get a desired effect. But the reality is even with a type r trans a ls 5th u don't get a highway friendly low rpm trans... the final (diff) is still really high and the ls 5th swap is a lot of work for a few hundred rpms.

Final drive is the countershaft and ring gear. This dictates the acceleration of all gears and top speed in all gears, it does not affect the RPM drop.

5th gear is what it is, the gear you cruise in on the highway.

Diff is the differential. This is what the ring gear bolts to and what drives the axles.

Changing the FD to make the car accelerate more will increase the cruising RPM, as will a full close gear set. If you just go with a 3rd and 4th close gear set, cruising RPM will not changing, but the 4-5 and 5-4 shifts will have a drastic RPM drop/jump.

aight, thanks a lot for all the info, and going into detail and explaining aquafina. I will most likely change my fd, and a lighter flywheel in the next while and stick to my gears, i don't mind em.

I currently run a stock ls motor matted to stock ITR Trans and it is fun but gets old FAST. I took a 160 mile round trip last sat, and between itr trans, buddy club spec 2 exhaust, and pic 10/8k suspention i HATED EVER SECOND of the ride.

But it can be fun even with a ls/t setup. My buddy had ls/t itr on a 67mm 30r with a very tall tire (radial) and it i think it was for around 130-140 (not trap speed) ish on top end, but pulled hard and fast as hell with his setup. Now before all u gsr trans swingers go start talkig crap this was his setup and it worked. I am not saying EVERY ls/t- ITR will work as well as his did. Its all in the turbo, tune, tire choice
