Default JDM Del Sol VXi new owner, and dash light on for overheating cat converter?

Hey guys newbie here... I just recently got my first honda, a del sol vxi with 29000 mile on the clock. In great condition. Why ive not had a honda before now no one knows but im loving it. I do however have a problem theres a red light on the dash im led to believe its something to do with the cat temp, being jdm? Is this true? If I join the two wires going to the sensor together this should turn it off? Will this improve my mpg? Im getting 300 miles to a tank does this sound right? Cheers Tom

Post a picture of the dash light. Do you mean the CEL? Or the charging system light?

No, he means the catalytic converter temp sensor light -- JDM only. I actually have no clue how to interpret it, what the meaning of it is, nor how to fix it. I guess the first question would be: what makes a cat overheat? And work from there.

But, I DO know enough that "joining the two wires together" to turn off the dash light won't make the problem go away. Come on. That's as bad as pulling the bulb out of the cluster when you have a CEL. Problem is NOT fixed. Smarten up. You'll still have the problem, and any low mpg or other consequences that go with it.

The cat overheats when the engine is running way too rich. Unburnt fuel in the exhaust ignites and burns in the cat. This is usually caused by engine misfiring, high fuel pressure, exhaust leak, stuck open injector, etc.
