i'm new to the mp3 scene and would like to know what you guys think are the best mp3 head units out there right now for around $500.

 

alpine 7894 would be my top choice

 

depends what your looking for looks or sound, I think that new sony looks pretty sweet. I have the jvc kd-sh99, its pretty sweet deck to just cuz it has the motorized viewings. I had a RFX 9300 fosgate mp3 player before this and it was ok.

 

The Alpine head units are supposed to play MP3s very well. I love my Alpine CDA-7998.

 

my vote is with the alpine 7894 too.

 

The Alpine is an great choice. I would also recommend the Pioneer DEHP9400MP. Just slighly above $500.00, but an excellent unit all around.

alpine 7894. if you are looking to spend under 200 I would recommed jvc sx980.

 

Alpine is good, but I just recenctly installed my Panasonic CQ-DF801U if I woulda know about this model, the CQ-DFX972U I woulda purchaced it. This is the model I recommend. Lots of features...(3) 5v Pre-amp outputs (Front, rear, sub), one audio input (hooking up audio/visual stuff), 6 different 3D dotmatrix displays, 50x4 MOS-FET internal amp, detachable face with red security LED, wireless remote and best of all under $320. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1391483211

wow that Panasonic CQ-DFX972U looks great and for the price it's a beauty. thanks very much everyone for your opinions. Panasonic seems to be the leading candidate right now with the look, features and price, unless someone comes forth with some negative experiences with it like how it functions etc. would love to hear more opinions though, and some pictures would be nice too.

Panasonic ain't that great but I still like them. I also like Clarion but I went Alpine because it does everything I want and more.

 

I was thinking about getting the alpine 7995 but then I saw this and decided its what I want.. Looks to be a real solid head unit. Now i just need somebody to buy my tein coilovers so I have money to spend on a new HU.

 

I just put a Alpine 7894 in my ITR and I love the damn thing. No more tons of discs to carry around. All I need is one CD-RW and I'm good to go Plus, it lights up amber just like my interior lights

I have the same unit. I like it but I don't like the lag between the tracks.

The other complaint is that it doesn't scroll the track info. I emailled Pioneer and the replied that it would be destracting.

DUH The thing flashes and plays screensavers. How can some text be less destracting.

I am going for the Alpine in my 240.

Has anyone checked out the Kenwood KDC-MP919? I'm going to pick this one up soon. They go for about $325+ on ebay (retail is $480) I chose Kenwood because I really like the self-hiding rotating face, fast access to mp3, up to 55 folders, and shuffles through the entire cd or just the folder.

It seems most Honda/Acura owners are more bias towards Alpine units!

 

JVC KD-SH909. After that, I'd pick the CDA-7995...unless that's not under $500...
