Default "Whirring" in first gear and reverse

I have a "whirring" sound in first gear and reverse when the vehicle is moving -- even when the clutch is pressed all the way down. I got this transmission off Ebay (yeah, I know) -- regardless, I've put 4K miles on it and it's been completely reliable, with the exception of the 1/R sound.

The car was previously an auto -- I got this transmission as part of an auto/manual swap.

I really think the 1/R gear sound is sexy. Anyhow -- is this something to worry about? (It's noticeable, but certainly hasn't become worse after 4K.)

Can you still hear the sound when your in 2nd and 3rd or just 1st?
Does it make the sound when you clutch in?
Did you change your throwout bearing during the swap?

Reverse is supposed to whine, but 1st shouldn't make any funny noises.
