Default obd1 running y8 on p28 map

i will be ordering my chrome chipped p28 in a few days. going into a d16y8 with boltons for now. 4500 rpm vtec is the only thing i am having them change in the settings, i think. the motor has 8 lb flywheel stage 2 clutch, is a y5/y8 mini-me with y8 intake mani, hondata thermal gasket, cold air, header and 2 1/4" exhaust. also car DOES have an aem cam gear (for some reason idk, was like that when i bought it) with what im fairly sure is a stock cam.

My main question. the z6 (p28) and y8 have different base ignition settings. ive heard the way to fix this is to use a z6 gear. would i be able to just adjust the cam gear to match the z6? if so how many degrees and + or -?

or would it be easier to just have the guy chipping it adjust the ignition in the p28 map to work with the y8?

edit:
also please dont tell me im wasting my money with a chipped ecu on a near stock d16. im getting the ecu because im in the process of collecting all parts for a turbo and will need tuned anyways. and really dont want to spend the money to get my stock y8 tuned on a p28 when i will just be getting re tuned for 8 psi in a few months.

I won't, because you're not -- but you're "fine" to run with that configuration for the time being, regardless of what you've been told. You already know you need a tune though, to dial this in 100%.

i know the engine will run on the stock p28 map but from what ive read its real sluggish afterwards. the z6 base ignition is 12 degrees and the y8 is 21.

Call up Xenocron. Have them cut you a basemap for your motor with the turbo you plan on bolting on. That way you'll have a smooth (and properly) running car for now, with a basemap already in place for when you boost.

Once I get the turbo it will be towed to the tuner. Closest tuner I trust is about an hour and a half away. I'm not worried about the tuning for the turbo right now just need a d16y8 map for Crome I guess. Or a good fix for the ignition difference between the two.
