question for newbie 1st bike?
i can definentally understand all the reasons not to buy a r6, gixer600, or a zx6r, for a first bike. but do you (expirenced riders) think most of crashes are due to a jackass on a bike mentioned above riding to fast and not being safe? or would most crashes like laying the bike down, happen under normal riding like turns, getting on the power too much in a turn or something like that? i am buying my 1st bike in a month or so. and yes im taking a msf course, wearing protective gear when i ride( helmet, gloves, leathers) and i was thinking of getting a 03' r6 or a gixer600 or a yzf 600r. 2 of my friends have bought gixer 600's for 1st bikes and they are riding fine with no problems etc. so do u think buying a r6 will be ok for a person with a very level-minded head thats not going to try and be a badass, that has never riden a sport bike? or should i just buy the yzf600r? thanks for the info.
I think power is rarely the problem, I think accidents happen simply because of inexperience and stupidity. I say do what you think is best, you sound like a level headed person and I think you can make the decision on your own and not with the opinions of us HTers.
Like Kris said, all is true. Some say, get a old Ninja 250, and just get used to a bike in general. I went the other route. I have had my bike (see signature) for about a month now, and I already have 600 miles.
I won't lie, I dont wear full gear. Dumb? Yes
But that is changing. I too, am level headed, but when on a bike, so much other stuff comes into play.

I'm going to follow suit w/ everyone else and save you the lecture. One thing I would point out between the yzf600r and r6 are the riding positions. Make sure you get some seat time on both right after one another. Many find the 600r ergonomics that much more comfortable. Plus one hazard of the r6 is being labeled a squid whether you are or not. And its the #2 most stolen sportbike in america. R1 being first. Try passing the course before you buy the bike. You'll actually have some idea what you're looking for in the bike before you buy it that way. Good luck w/ your decision.
thanks for all the info. as for the bike getting stolen, im parking it in my house at night. and i know it could still get nicked wherever i might go but im going to be extra cautious about that. i really dont know how to get some seat time on a r6 or a yzf600r. the dealerships dont let u have test rides( at least thats what i asummed) so how would i get to ride some besides riding someones?
