I got ripped off!
Hi guys, two days ago a mechanic changed my clutch, because of a grinding gear problem. It seemed like the grinding stopped, and the clutch became much smoother. Although, one thing i noticed right after i got the car, is that it wouldnt grab 1st gear, the car would just shake, until i reved it to about 1300 rpm, then it would grab. Now 200 miles later, the clutch I beleive is gone, all the gears feel like neutral and the car wont move. For those who read all this thank you. What should I do!? any suggestions? does it sound like a clutch problem?
Thank you Erik

Hmmmm, I just got this strange idea, dont even know how I came up with it....
How bout take it back to the shop???
If that doesn't work, sit in your car and cry you eyes out.

Oh of course back to the shop. But im afraid they're gonna say its not the clutch anymore but something else! I was wondering if there is anyway i can prove to them that it was their fault!

Well, hopefully you have your receipt, and some sort of warranty as to the quality of workmanship done to your car. Other than that, the symptoms you describe seem directly attributable to a bad clutch...

I have a receipt with all of the work performed stated. Its a Joe shmo place, it was an emergency I had no choice. I would of done it myself if i had time/tools/place. I dont trust any shop. Thanks for the replys guys. And i just payed 150 for a flat bed.

umm.. Definitely go back to the shop. I wouldn't let that guy touch my car again.. You just said you don't trust shops.. Why did you bring it to Joe Schmo then? I'd rather bring it to the dealer..

It was an emergency, i was on the way to class. And the car had a problem right in front of their shop. I happpened to know someone who works there. I had a Calc II midterm, and they offered a loaner car, so i kind of had lil choice.

definately talk to the shop and see what they have to say. Kinda hard to say you've been ripped off when you haven't even approached the other party to try and resolve the problem. does sound like the new clutch is gone.... didn't do any burnouts to test it out, did you?
no offence... just be ready to answer these type of questions when you take it back to the shop.
good luck... hope everything works out.

I Drove it below 3000 rpms at all times after the work performed. The reason I say that I was ripped off, is beacause. I didnt feel like the clutch was changed, or properly installed, since the car would shake in first gear when i released the clutch, anyway im gettin it towed to the shop right now. Wish me luck.

Hey Man,
My main office is in Watertown. There is a guy at the Acura dealer in Framingham who does EXCELLENT work for reasonable cash. He just put in my new flywheel/clutch, torquing to Honda specs and using all the right parts, etc etc.
If you're interested in having some work done in the future, this guy rules. After work, around 5pm, a pizza and a six pack and some $$$ and your car will run mint.
