Default Engine rebuild question....b18c1

I had an engine rebuilt six months ago. B18c1.
pistons, rings, complete head. Seals the whole deal.

Now my main rear mail seal is leaking 6 months later. Isn't that something they
should have replaced when doing the rebuild???

Thanks.

Hmmm, I guess it was not the "whole deal".

Have you checked with the rebuilder?

Did you ask for it to be done?

Was it done and has it now failed, was it done improperly? 94

I'm in Los Angeles right now and my builder is up in the bay. My guy here(this morning) is looking at it because I thought my oil pan was leaking, plug, etc..he told me it was my rear main seal and not my pan. And said it needed to be replaced. I was losing about a qt. of oil every 500 miles or so. So I was like damn I just got my engine rebuilt and I'm freaking out. lol. Yes I asked for all seals to be replaced. The rebuild was an in bay rebuild where they leave the block in. The mechanic here in L.A. said that with any rebuild the rear main seal should be and is most often replaced.

My set-up:

1994 GSR
ITR cams
ITR pistons, new rings
DC Header
Full Exhaust
Stock EG6 intake
Skunk 2 intake mani

If you are rebuilding the engine without removing it from the engine bay , It would be called an overhaul , and without separating the engine from the trans you can not replace the rear main seal .
I just rebuilt my B18C and was not able to get a gasket kit from Honda, I used all OEM gaskets and oil pump, new pistons , wrist pins , rings and rod and main bearings.

I see. I had all that done plus my head was sent out to get done. Question, if they had my tranny out to put my LSD in, would you notice a rear main seal leaking?

Also, how long can I drive with a leaking rear main seal?
I have no place to do work right now with my living situation.
How much should I expect to pay for a new rear main seal?

Talked to my bay area guy(mechanic) and he stated this exactly in the way of the rear main seal. :-( Looks like this is next on my things to get done. Thanks everyone. Happy New Year!

Okay so new news. It's NOT my rear main seal. It's my oil pan, and oil pan gasket. WTF. My mechanic also stated that even tho it's been six months my engine could still be breaking in.
wow.

oil pan gasket is one of the most common leak areas on this engine. you have to get the block and pan extremely clean, even helps to lightly scuff with 600 grit the paint on the pan AFTER cleaning it all, then clean again. use a 1/4" torque wrench to install and tighten to roughly 90-100 inch pounds in the proper sequence. i always two stepped going 50 inch pounds then 100

if you do it like that you won't have a leak. also use rubber honda pan gaskets
