GearWrench and other tool Questions
How is it going everyone. I didn't know quite where to put this but anyway. I Recently had my tools stolen and need to get new ones for work. My question is How good Is GearWrench compared to other brands such as Craftsman, Snap on, Matco, ect...
Thanks for any help given

well you can almost by gearwrench anywhere they sell tools. even my matco and snap on dealer has them. but one thing i can say is that the matco gearwrench has a M stamped into it for matco warranty purpose. but the tool is only as good as the mechanic. buy what you can afford for now
I agree. Buy what you can afford. As long as theres some type of warranty for it if it breaks, and its in your price range. Go for it.
I frequently look first at harborfreight for the simple things (sockets wrenches, etc.) but wouldnt buy anything of greater importance (torque wrench, air compressor, etc.) you get my drift?
but ive also bought a good number of tools from people on craigslist locally, and at decent 2nd hand prices, even offering trades for items i have that i dont necessarily need.

Gear wrench is good, I am using a set right now for work. I occasionally beat things with my 5/8 and 3/4 and they are ratchet wrenches. Personally I use Harbour Freight tools and they work wonders too. No need to have high dollar tools that can be done with cheapos.
if you are working as a mechanic full time buy stuff that wont break.
If you are just working on cars at the house, buy cheaper stuff.
I have never had good luck with craftsman or gearwrench, they arent up to being used and abused every day in a dealership. I have mostly snap on stuff. My matco dealer sucks so I dont really use anything matco.

I have snap on digital torque wrenches in 3/8", and 1/2" drive, precision brand torque wreches in 3/8", & 1/2". Compare a snap on torque wrench, to a Precision brand torque wrench, they are identical except for minor differences in the heads. Many of the professional tool brands are being made in China, and are just labeled differently. snap on sockets, and wrenches are hard to beat though, they seem to fit better, and are less likely to round off nuts and bolts. 90% of my tools are snap on, but our tool dealers keep going out of business making more difficult to get stuff fixed or replaced. I have been very disappointed with the lack of customer service provided by snap on tools. They have some great products at a premium price, but now I look for comparable products online at places like the tool warehouse, sj tools etc.
I have 3 sets I use on my race car and street car.

I've had a set of the stubby gear wrenches for years, got them when I was still working at a dealer. They are great. I wouldn't recommend them as your only wrenches though, the ratcheting heads are too big and not as strong as a normal box. The stubby ones are awesome for running fasteners on and off after you break them loose with a normal wrench.
Ive been a honda tech for a while now and ive used everything from harbor freight to snap on and it always comes down to you get what you pay for
But your question on gearwrench i have a gearwrench set that ive had for years with no problem and sears has lifetime warranty and they are good for low torque applications either way if you spend a little more on tools now you wont have to keep buying cheap tools that break

I hate just about every hand tool craftsman makes. Some of the stuff in their "professional" line is not bad though. In my opinion, it could compete with snap on or matco, not all of it, but a lot of it. That being said, the work tool box is all snap on and the home tool box is all harbor freight. If it's not your profession, you can not beat harbor freight. I think they also lifetime warranty hand tools which is crazy considering how cheap all their stuff already is. The quality difference between snap on and harbor freight is also rather evident though. It's actually about as evident as the price difference. Lol
I have not had any problems with my gear wrench tools.
I find my my craftsman is just as strong as any snap on / matco. The HUGE difference is if you're working on car where it is very difficult to get to something. SnapOn/Matco can make their tools thinner/grip better something.
99.9% I use my tools, Every once and in a while I will have to ask my co-workers to borrow their socket/wrench, etc... and theirs just fits a little bit better than I can now make the 1/8th turn.
