Default Powersteering sloshing noise

My P/S pump is making noise. I topped the fluid and bled it, jacked it up and turned the wheels side to side. It made the noise go away for a bit but it came back slowly.

I got under the car and noticed a "squishing" or "sloshing" noise coming from the rack, along with a ripped drivers side boot. There doesn't seem to be a lot of fluid down there.

Does the rack normally make a sloshing noise, or is this a sign that a rack seal is toasted?

Was considering rebuilding pump with new gaskets but think the rack is the real problem.

My accord made that same noise. It was the rack. I kept driving it and the rod that the inner tie rod threads into on the rack actually came out of the rack. Luckily i was making a slow right hand turn.

Though i should mention that i have taken my accord off road places that i have not taken my Jeep and drive it down dirt roads at an excess of 60 mph when trucks are only going like 20 and i have had it so high in the air that when i landed i bent the entire front clip up and split the transaxle completely in half. But it's all better now. And i don't drive it like that anymore. My 76 custom deluxe 30 with a 454 in it. That's a different story. So the moral of this story. Don't drive like me and check your rack and pinion.

Ha well ok i'll avoid the offroading.

I jacked it up and didn't notice play in the rods, actually, but the sloshing/squishing noise makes me think there is a seal broken.

So you're saying that after you replaced the rack (did you?) that the sloshing went away? I'm just not sure if the sound of fluid in there is normal or not.

No bubbles in the reservoir.

No i haven't replaced the rack yet, but i remembered earlier that my friends 91 was making a weird noise almost kinda like a grinding that was coming from the pump. Once it was replaced it went away. That sloshing your talking about could be a possible sign its getting ready to blow a seal. It's not normal either way

The highlighted it in that sentence suggests that once you replaced the RACK the P/S pump noise went away? Yes?

Hmm.

Will somebody out there run a test? Just jack up your car, unlock the steering wheel, and move your tires from side to side. What do you hear?

You know what I'm bored out of my ******* skull, it's new years eve and i have no plans but to stay at home with the kids and go to beef at like 10. So i will jack the car up and **** with it a little bit to find out and let you know what i find. It will take a while though because i need to wait for everything to defrost before i lay down in the dirt under a frozen car.
