Hi I am new to this site. I have a 1998 honda integra db6 with a a zc16 engine sohc non-vtec automatic transmission. I'm having an issue, I have am getting a check engine light while driving. When I test it I get code 17 which is the VSS code. I dont know why I'm getting this code because my speedo and rev clock are functioning properly so I would love some advice on what could be the possible reasons for this.

 

Clear the code and see if it comes back, may just be a stored code. 94

 

What do I need to do to clear the code?

 

I forgot to mention that when the light comes on, if i switch off the car and switch it back on the light goes away for awhile but comes back

 

the light is set to distinguish after 3 drive cycles without a fault. the code would be stored in memory as a soft code (no CEL) for 40 warm up cycles without a fault. if the light is continuously illuminating, there is a problem. all you can do is go over the circuit with a fine tooth comb. look for any possible wiring issues-shorts, corroded pins, etc..it's possible the problem is the sensor or the problem may even lie in the ecm itself

 

OK thanks for the advice. I am gonna try and change the sensor today, can a VSS taken from a manual car be used on the automatic transmission?

 

not sure. but just look up the part #'s and see if they differ
