1991 CRX HF Odometer
I'm new to this forum. I've been lurking for quite a while, and decided to finally join in order to give you all the benefit of my severe lack of intelligence in matters automotive.
The compelling issue that has prompted me to finally open my yap and give y'all a yell is the odometer on my 91 CRX HF. I bought it back in about July -- a rattletrap with a very decent engine -- and let it sit awhile while I drove my other ride to near extinction before selling it off.
In the last few hundred miles, the odometer and trip odometer got stuck while trying to roll over to the next 1000 mile increment. Rather than proceed in an orderly fashion, it clicks and makes the speedo needle jump in the process.
I noticed on eBay that someone is selling a speedometer head pulled from the instrument cluster.
Does anyone here have any experience swapping these out? OR, does anyone have any experience unjamming the odometer (this would be ideal!)
OR do I simply need to get another instrument cluster.
I'd rather figure out how to unjam the thing; that way I wouldn't have to go through getting another instrument cluster or speedo only to find out it has the same problem (that's usually my luck in these kinds of things).
I just put some dough into some maintenance issues (tie rod ends, rack and pinion boots, tires, trans oil change, etc.) so I don't have much disposable dough right now, but would like to get rid of the clicking and get the odometer running again. Besides, with all that clicking, I can't hear some of the normal moans and groans coming from the car, and it interferes with radio listening as well.
By the way, I'm in Los Angeles, near Hollywood, if anyone's got either of these parts....
Any advice I can get on this would be much appreciated!
I've read many of your posts and admire your know-how!
Hoping you're all having a great holiday season this year, and I hope all your cars just keep on purring along, getting you safely from here to there.
