I had 18's on mine with 2 inch lowering springs and they fit fine. Only problem was they rubbed a bit when i turned. They are now on my 95 coupe and they fit fine. I even have coilovers on it. So yours should fit fine.
i normally run my 17x7 with 42 offset just fine with 215/40/17's. the ride quality is actually not bad with the 40 series, a 45 series would also fit your application and create a better ride for you. im 2.5" lowered from stock and i have no rubbing issues lock to lock.
Will 205/40/17 work.according to tirerack.com and procivic.com they say to use 205/40/17 or 195/40/17 not sure what would be the best...and also you saying ii could use 215/40/17..just trying to make it so I don't rub
