Need a little info for 1989 Integra. Was it a good buy?
I just bought one tonight for 1200 bucks. In amazing mechanical shape and just needs some dents taken out of hood and one of the fenders has a dent too (can get fixed and primered dirt cheap by friend). Will update this for you guys with pics tomorrow. Only 160k miles which obviously isn't bad for an 89. Everything such as power windows, blinkers, AC, Heater etc work. Tires have about 80 percent tread left. Oh it's a 4 door.
Anyways I've been researching Google and these forums for an hour and it seems the "1G" Integra has almost no aftermarket support
. I mean I can't even really find turbo kits, suspension parts or anything for this car outside of one thing here or there.
I don't have the means to afford everything custom so I'm hoping at least one company makes cheap aftermarket stuff for it. A reliable DD that is enjoyable to drive and can eventually get to about 200-220 WHP or so and that can handle decent is my goal. Hell probably 180 WHP would be enough. Running 14's would be plenty.
I want enough handling to do mountain runs for fun and to take corners decently quick but will not be competitively tracking or autocrossing this car so doesn't need to be amazing (I know suspensions on 1G's were pretty poor).
I'm leaning towards not swapping and going with a small turbo such as a T3 and running 5-10 PSI and dropping the car on coilovers, adding sway bars and bigger tires. Along with the basic bolt ons like I/H/E and more aggressive clutch/gearing.
Can the D16 handle a small turbo (or other FI) and better handling equipment? Sorry for asking so much just new to the Integra family and need all this info. I'm open to Nitrous as well because I rarely have the urge to have a lead foot so I'd be okay with having power on demand like that without it constantly running. I'm also okay with a B series swap although the cost of that is much more than turboing the D.

the motor is the d16a9? i believe, almost identical to the civic/crx DOHC ZC. not much love for swaps un fortunately, you would need a custom mount for all of them. but the d16 will handle 200whp with a good tune fine, and you have supposedly one of the strongest d series transmissions ever made from honda (i'm talking stock trannies here)

The 2nd gen would have been a better choice for autocross runs. Your bushings and such are most likey old and routed out and will need replacing. Your going to need to do a lot custom work to make things work to be honest.
It would be the D16A1, [black top] a 1.6L DOHC PGMFI 118HP, [6500RPM] ECU is the PG7 electronic advance distributor.
The D16A9 is a JDM/EDM 88-95 Civic/Concerto/Rover/CRX engine. 94

Not that unusual, peak HP is generally not at "marked" red-line, and having the rev limiter engage at 500 RPM above that "marked' red line is not out of the ordinary either.
I see what you mean about aftermarket support, it's not as easy to find as it is for G2s and G3s, but I would think with some research you should be able to find things that will work with no or minimum custom modding.
For what your looking for, maybe just keep the engine stock except for air in/exhaust out and spray when you want, a 75 shot is easy and the cheapest HP you can get, put money into brakes/suspension and rubber, so you can get around those mountain road corners and stop when you need to, a nice set of rims wouldn't hurt either, although if these are stock...

and you have them, they look good on a 4 door.
Maybe instead spend the money on a set of really good tires on cheap steelies for those mountain runs, my Yokohama O32Rs, [I use for autocross] are on steelies and weigh in at about 1/3 of what my TSWs with "street" tires on them do.
You need to post a few pix of the car now so we can see before and after pix. 94

keep this as a driver and find a blown up dc2 on the cheap if you want a turbo project car.
you'll have one hell of a time trying to do a build on a 1st gen

People keep saying that but it's an incredibly dead forum. I mean half of their sections have 0 threads/posts. I think I may take FCM's advice and go for Nitrous only because I rarely race or drive fast anyways. The stock car surprisingly has more pep than I realized and I can chirp the tires in gears 1-4. Just like most stock Honda's it has **** power under like 4k RPM but over that it's surprisingly good for an 89 4 door.
I think I'll go the route of repairing the front dents, repaint, upholstry, lower+some coilovers and sway bars, rims+tires, bolt ons and Nitrous. Basically restore to great condition, make it look better, do some bolt ons and then nitrous. I'm thinking this is about 3k of work at most. Today I filled brake fluid which removed the brake light. I replaced gas cap back to OEM and I handled all the other fluids. Runs beautifully.

Found out my front is a torsion bar...
. Can these be replaced with coilovers or would this require heavy fabrication? If not can torsion bars be lowered and made to handle decent?

the site crashed about a couple of months ago and all the info and data was lost. it started up again about a month ago so thats why there isnt many posts.
Consider just keeping it stock and original. It's always nice to see an untouched original car. If you maintain this car, it should last you a long time. You have a great car. Keep it original.
They go well with a b swap. And springs in rear with panhard bar that's adjustable turn torsions down and get struts they will handle well.
It's not a bad swap.. Same as a 87 Crx I swapped brakes from a teg and ls motor with carbs thing ran hard. Red pepper racing has info I believe
