Default Accord remote key issue

ok, just got an '09 model. Remote works but not well. Changed battery and all seemed well. Now a few days later not working well, have to be really close for it to work if at all!

Ideas?

This happened to me. I went through 3 batteries, and decide to just not use it. I used the 2nd key. 3 weeks later, everything worked again, like new.

So my reply is this. I was ready to get a new key and transponder ($150?). Afterall, things do go bad, or maybe I dropped my keys before. So wait.

I'd wait on replacing the transponder...Mainly because the inhibitor is built into your unit (not the key head like earlier models), so to replace it, it's the cost of the unit, plus the cost of programming (here, 1 hour labor). Since it's a radio frequency that opens the doors, perhaps it's weather related. I have had customers complain about the same thing, and a couple of them had the same results as Drew....give it a week or so (and use your spare for now).

Good luck and let us know what your results were

hey dont know if you re still having issues with this but at the dealer we have this issue with 8th gen accord, pilots and some other vehicles. if you've still got warranty, I'd suggest swinging by your local dealer or giving them a calll with this concern as in Canada, there is a service bulletin on keyless modules intermittently responding or not responding at all. In which case Honda is replacing your existing modules for an update one which seems to remedy the problem every time I've encountered it.

Cheers,

Peter.

Do you have the TSB number? I know you say Canada, and US may be different (even thou it's the exact same car.)

Or post it up here for us to read.

I know many Accord guys just see this as a opportunity to switch to the Switch Blade (TSX) key. But some of us don't care for that fancy and just want t key to work-right.

I have a 2008 Accord and both remotes, ummm... suck. I run into the same issue - you have to press on a button a zillion times and it MIGHT work, that's the clue it needs to be taken apart and cleaned. It can go from working fine to almost useless in about a week.

About once a year I take my jeweler's screwdriver set and take it apart, get to the circuit board, spray some electrical contact cleaner into an old cup, or a lid, anything that can hold just a few drops, then I dip a toothpick into it, and then dab/drip a drop or two around the buttons that are soldered onto the circuit board. Put it back together and it's good for another year. It's NOT the battery.

I realize I don't have a transponder unit - just a remote key, but still, the above is what I have to do.

I'm on the "down cycle" again where it only works when it's about 2-3 feet away. And sometimes I need to press it 2-3 times. Before, I think it would work by pressing once as far as 30ft.

Riding it out...I guess.
