2001 Accord coupe - Cannot open driver door from outside
I've had this reoccuring problem with my Accord. I have not personally fixed it, I have had a local shop work on it twice.
One day I go to get in the car, unlock the door and as I pull the handle I hear some clunks and hear parts fall down inside the door.
I'm able to pull the door handle from the outside but there is no tension on it, does not feel like it is connected to anything.
From the inside, no problems opening the door, that is how I get in at the moment. Get in passenger door and reach across to pop driver's door.
I took the car to the local shop, they took the panel off and "fixed it".
The owner of the shop told me a rod was bent and he bent it back to shape and reconnected it.
This fix lasted about 3 weeks and the door fell apart again.
I took it back and he bent/reconnected the rod again.
It lasted a little while and broke again.
I was thinking of trying to order a new rod (not sure exactly what rod this is) and install it myself. My other option is to take it back to him, I'll pay for the rod and have them install it. They aren't a bad shop, this is the first problem I have had with them.
Has anyone had a similar issue? I searched but did not find this problem exactly.
Does anyone know what rod the shop was talking about? Know the price?

cylinder rod or lock rod, hard to ascertain from FSM. Not sold seperately. You probably just need the rod holder which is available.
