engine swap f22 in 3g prelude
I have an 89 Prelude Si b20a1 it has 252,000 miles and when i bought it the motor pulls strong. blows no or hardly any smoke no engine noise. but a couple weeks after i got it, when engaging the clutch it would vibrate or shake. A mechanic says the main bearing seal is shot and leaking oil onto the clutch and etc. I cant afford to pay someone todo it, and my friends and I don't feel that justified speaning that much time when i could just throw a newer motor/tranny in. I bought this car with the hopes of swapping in a H22a but i dont have 2300+ shipping. Would it be any harder to put a F22 in? would be alot cheaper...
what do you think?

YEah man you could drop the f22 in. It would be the same as doing the h22a. You will need stuff from place racing.
-mounts
-axles
-wire harness adaptor
The swap should be simple with the stuff from place racing.

thank you, i emailed them. However now where is a good place to find an F22 motor? how much am i looking at with or without vtec? Is it possible to convert it to vtec in the future? im really tight on money at the moment.

Here's the lowdown, I just cut and pasted it from an ad I put on another board.. I don't have compression numbers but it ran perfect, I just swapped to get a little more power. I should have done a compression check on it before I pulled it but I was too busy thinking about the H22A.
Type: Aluminum-Alloy In-Line 4
Displacement (cc) 2156
Horsepower@rpm (SAE net, MT/AT) 135@5200
Torque (lb.ft. @ rpm) 142@4000
Compression Ratio 8.8:1 (hmm.. turbo?)
Valve Train: SOHC 16-Valve
125,000 KM
5 speed tranny with good newer clutch (so I was told by the previous owner, she had no recipts but it works good)
Comes with:
distributor in great condition
intake and exhaust manifolds with downpipe
throttle body
axles to use for cores (if u want them)
ECU
all sensors
starter
alternator
A/C compressor (if needed)
side mounts (I'm using the front and rear ones on the H22A )
*no wiring harness* because I used it for my H22A, just pick up one from an accord.
It's in perfect running condition, most Honda's burn a bit of oil (like my H22a does
) but this one never did need any oil (other than changes of course) in the whole time I ran it.
It's a great replacement for a blown up Accord or Prelude to get the car back on the road, or you could ghetto-swap it into a civic if you're in need of a motor by using an H22A mount kit as an F22A, H22A and H23A all use the same mounts.

500$ for all of it? Sounds like a really good deal. Can you find out how much shipping would be for zip code 49329. Howard City michigan.
I really would like the f22b sohc with vtec, i realize the power difference is minute.. I intended to put the H22a in my prelude.. just cant swing it.

why would you swap in a weaker motor that is only a sohc? the accord motor has less compression and doesn't pull nearly as hard as the 2.0 in the prelude for the third gen. if you are worried about money, save your money. fix the motor you have now. save it for the h22a swap. don't waste your money on the f22. you can get a new clutch and main seal for only a couple hundred bucks. if you are going to swap in a motor all on your own then i am sure you can remove your transmission, clutch, flywheel and main seal to replace the seal and clutch. don't be stupid. keep the prelude motor until you are ready for the h22a swap. otherwise, get a jdm b20 motor. it is a direct bolt-up to what you have in your car now and has more power than both motors. you can get one of those motors for about $500 too.
boost?
Fact or fiction: boosting an F22 would be less tiresome than boositng an H22? It just seems that way, logically speaking. Not that would be his intention, but an option.
