Default mods can you clean up search results?

everyone tosses around the " did you try searching" so much but have you actually tried searching yourself?

chances are you been here for so long you remember posts by name and all you have to do is find the one with matching name

you say. search and read theres plenty of usefull info.

well how about search for AEBS intake manifold specs.
thats why i made a post because i couldnt find any after spending about 4-5 hours of reading through bullshit threads that lead nowhere.

read this thread and tell me if it helps with anything at all
https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...highlight=AEBS

theres 10 pages that came up with AEBS search and i guarantee about 70-80% of them have same bullshit in them that doesnt help anyone.

im just tired of people telling others to search when the search results are all fd up and not maintained.

there will always be noobs asking same questions. just like sales job you explain same **** over and over every day to different people. you dont tell them to GTFO and search noob..

if you see a noob question at least post a link to a good thread so he can read it and learn instead of telling to search because chances are he wont know what keywords to search for and will make another similar thread asking same question differently
now you have 2 noob questions cluttering up the board instead of one

i mean i dont mind reporting posts that have no usefull info so they can be deleted.

say a post is there for 6 years without any replies why the hell is it still active
or one or 2 replies saying "anyone" and then follows "search noob"

i use search alot but after so many wasted hours i rather ask a question than waste my time searching

search results are based on the database query return. other than going through each and every thread made that is still in the database, i don't think there is a way to remove less than desirable returns. knowing that the search engine is still being worked on, consider doing a more specific search, ignore threads that are obviously not what you need, and if you don't get the answer, ask the question for a better thread.

i mean honestly i ve spent so much fn time reading through useless posts that i just post another thread and ask the question.

because for you maybe its easy when you have one specific question and you search for it. i can justify spending few hours reading through garbage

but when i was learning (and still am) i spend a good few days sometimes more than a week reading through all this nonsense and end up with no answer.

its been like this since i remember and ive been here for a while. it improved a bit BUT
with every passing year theres more garbage and it is harder and harder to find good threads...

i think if there was less unrelated results people would be more willing to search

what about something similar to WIKI on pgmfi.org?

instead of having a sticky thread that gets updaed rarely

can we haz a wiki that gets populated by threads that receive an approval from users

say i read a thread and its very informative. i can vote to add it to wiki and after certain amount of votes it will be added to wiki automatically.

or something else to manage the search engine would be great too.

I can find Atlantis using the search. Work on your keyword skills. And as long as new posts are filling up the database you will continue to get more unrelated search results.

And people don't even read the few stickied posts as it is. They aren't going to read any kind of wiki either.

Use Google, and restrict it to just this site.

"site:honda-tech.com searchTerm1 searchTerm2"

Results for AEBS: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ahonda-tech.com+AEBS&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a

i do that too. the problem is not finding the results
the problem is going through thousands of useless and empty threads that dont have any good info in them.
and by the 10th page you kinda get tired of reading same sht repeated over and over and still no answer to your question.
thats why i suggested that rating threads(thumbs up/thumbs down) and including it into search options would be great because we then would be able to filter the results by number of replies and by the rating of a thread

because im sure people wouldnt give a thumbs up to a thread that carries no usefull info to anyone.

this board has alot of great threads but to find them you either have to have the whole database stored in your head or be super lucky and just click on the right thread...

its like going to a book store to search for one specific book and find out that there are about 600 books with same name so good luck finding what you need..

Seriously I don't use the search here ever. Google is the best out there and it doesn't limit you to this site either. Honda-tech definitely is one of the best Honda sites for sure but if you limit your search to here sometimes you'll be disappointed.
