HELP!!! speedo just stopped working?
i drive a 88 dx crx. z6 swap converted to OBD-1 running 89 crx Si tranny. it worked when i gotto my girls house, then when i left it wasn't working. what kinda ****? HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!
o and i tried feeling if maybe the cable came out of the tranny, slips out with no restriction, but doesn't go in any further...is there a sensor i can check, or maybe a fuse?
well the car has like 210k on it? i am guessing the cable does too. umm..... how hard is it to pull it out of the cluster?i know how to get it out of the tranny, but is it hard to get it out and thena new one back in thorugh the fire wall?
no you just take the cluster out and unplug the cable. and it should SNAP into the tranny not just sit. there is a little snap on it
I had a similar situation recently; I thought the speedo and/or cable was fried, unitl I noticed
that the odometer was still ticking over; turns out the needle base wasn't holding the needle
shaft anymore. I swapped it out with another needle and it's been fine since.
good luck

sorry, after re-reading the other posts, if the speedo cable slips out with no restrictions, that means that
it isn't in right. I have found that getting the speedo cable to couple correctly into the tranny is a real bitch.
Take some time to make sure that the clip is seated correctly, and this may fix the problem.

If your speedo cable comes off the tranny easily, there is no way to get the cable seated back correctly unless you pull out the speedo gear. It's very simple. you will need a 10mm socket with a long extension. unbolt speedo gear and pull the gear out of the tranny. may need to use a flat head screwdriver to pry out. Then reseat the cable into the gear and put the clip back on to hold the cable in place. Then drop back the whole assembly in the tranny.
take the cable off..... with a electric Drill pinch the cable and turn it... have someone look inside and tell u if the needle moves.. if it moves then u gota make sure is in tight on the tranny.... sometimes it feels its in, but they just snap outta place (happen to me b4)
if it doesnt move at all.. ur speedo cable its broke or it came off behind the cluster...

ok cool. i guess i will try to mess with it some more tomorrow when it is day light. it is a bitch to try and get my arm down to where it goes in the tranny with everything on. and even harder to see what i am doing.i have put it in before when doing my swap and clutch changes..just hard to get to. maybe i'll have to take my intake off.? I'll let you guys know though...thanks for the tips
