Icon6 93 Si VTEC issues...Help!

Just picked up a 93 Si VTEC and I am having a some rpm issues. First, the car has a jumpy idle, between 900-1200 rpm when sitting still. Found that the alternator was not functioning, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it(probably not). Second, the car will not rev past 3700 rpm. Any further than that, it just pops and backfires, with the rpm staying at 3700. The car left me sit on the way home today (because of the alternator) but other than that, I must say I am now a huge prelude fan. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

First, pull all the codes it's throwing.

If the alternator isn't working, the ignition can't function properly, so get that fixed first of all!

Then check codes, and since you just bought it, I would do new spark plugs, cap and rotor, and a full fluid and filter change.

Depending on mileage and records, might be time for a timing belt and water pump as well.

I'll have the alternator in tomorrow, and i'll plan on checking plugs. I understand if the are roasted then that could be the answer to my symptoms. I'll post an update tomorrow after that's done.

Sounds like there is air in the coolant system. There is a bleeder on the tstat housing.

Well, went to pick up the car from a buddy of mine who put the new alternator in, got on the highway, and she ran great. For about 20 miles. The she died in the middle of the highway. Doing about 65 and it just died. Had spark, turned over, but wouldn't start.
