Default shifter problem

Over the past month or so I have started to notice some changes in shifts. when going from 2->3, the shifter gets very firm and almost difficult to get into 3rd once it gets past neutral. If going from neutral to 3rd, its fine, but when i go from 2nd to 3rd, it gets stiff past neutral.

I pulled out the console to see if there was anything obviously weird going on and nothing was jumping out at me as broken or worn appearing

Any idea at all? is there anything that can be lubricated maybe?

Have you replaced the transmission fluid ever?

Is it a 5 speed manual?

If it is a MT, bleed the clutch first. It sound clutchs like the clutch is not disengaging or releasing making it hard to shift.

Honda MTF. Its far superior then what's available through local retailers.

I had orig thought that as well, but there is no problem going from any gears except 2 to 3. yes it is 5MT. Either way, im gonna bleed the clutch and do a fluid swap this weekend. If i need more hydraulic fluid, is there any specific brand I should go with?

Honda Brake fluid. Its the same stuff they used in your clutch line.

My son's '93 Civic had the same problem going from second to third. I first changed the clutch fluid, then did three drain and fills of the transmission about a week apart. It has been fine for the past two years.

I'm having a similar issue but I just changed my tranny fluid. Can I still bleed the clutch without having to mess with the tranny fluid?

Yes. They're two separate systems. Clutch line hydraulic fluid never actually enters the transmission housing.
