I test drove a 05 crv today and every time I gave it gas there's a whine coming from the engine. The whine is always there until the car goes pass 40mph. It doesn't whine during idle even if I give it some gas. It's not the diff because it's definitely coming from the front. It gets louder when I accelerate but disappears after 40mph+. Does anyone know what it might be? I really wanted to seal the deal but I'm sure that whine isn't normal so I turned it down.

 

My best guess is transmission. Is it an auto?

 

Yes it was an auto.

 

Did you test drive with the wife in the car? if so, that's where the whining is coming from.. the passenger seat... not the engine.
