*VTEC-KART* BUILD THREAD
Alright boys and girls, seeing as I finally put my money where my mouth is, I thought Id introduce myself and write up a build thread. My name is Chuckie Hustle, this is my 4th EF but my first hands on build. Althought, I LOVE EF'S! I hate Honda! Too many fan boys, and "bought" builds. Ive always been the one PAYING TO PLAY, but this time I decided BUILT NOT BOUGHT starting from square one with a DPFI STD Hatch.
Enough about me......
I got her for 500$
Blue with blue pleather
1990 Honda Civic Hatch STD (canadian)
DPFI D15B1 with 210K on motor and body
4 speed
FLOWMASTER EXHAUST
TONS OF RUST
BLOWN F/R BALL JOINT
NEWER ALTERNATOR, AXLES, STARTER.
3 SPOKE WHEELS, 1 SPARE
RIPPED SEATS
MISFIRING/SMOKING TIMING BELT SKIPPED A TOOTH
REAR BUMPER SAGGING (bumper support broken)
NO CEL until about 80mph on highway, then goes away at next start up.

I was previously driving an 03 Mazdaspeed Protege 2.0T so needless to say upgrades needed to be made immediately. The parts shopping and deal hunting started immediately. I was working for Town Fair Tire at the time and I consider myself a bit of a barter king and craigslist hound, so I had 4 sets of rims before the car was even registered! I had the original 3 spokes, steelies, 17's and then finally settled on 15" Konig Helium's.
First I thought the suspension was bad so I bought my buddies old Tokico Blues with OEM replacement springs from his DA 93 Acura Integra, but it turned out to be the ball joints so I picked up his old adjustable camber arms too. And got a full alignment so the suspension was level again.

Next I needed to do something about the Interior, ripped seats, steering wheel was badly worn, no rpm gauge. So I picked up some 91 Prelude Si seats, ebay blue stitch 3 spoke steering wheel, and sparco shift ****, 91 Civic Si cluster, 91 Civic Si rear cargo cover.

I went through a few more sets of rims. 14" Del Sol Si's with winter tires, 16" ASA's, and now I have 15" 99 Si wheels with winter tires

Meanwhile all this time I have been buying, selling and trading for more engine parts. Piece by piece UNTIL RECENTLY SHE STARTED RUNNING LIKE CRAP!! Swapped the cluster, blew every headlight bulb for some reason. Hi beams and Lo beams. It was weird. Then the alternator blew, and I replaced it was a obd1 D16Z6 alternator that was intermittently bad. It passed 7 of 8 times. I blew the original battery, a used battery, and finally got a brand new alternator and battery. Go big or go home hahahah But more importantly I knew the timing belt had skipped a tooth but had been ignoring it and slacking until I lost more compression and started smoking more.
THEN CAME THE FUN PART!!!
One day I was taking off at a light and took off too slow for the lady behind me so she beeped. My thoughts ooooohh ya?! FLOORED IT AND SMOKED HER OUT.... I KNEW IT WAS TIME TO TOUCH THE ENGINE BAY A LITTLE.....

This is where things get interesting. I actually finished 2 days ago, but I went by the Autozone firing order which ended up being wrong for my aftermarket distributor. I went by the distributor markings and VROOM! SHE FIRED RIGHT UP!!
UNFORTUNATELY I TOOK A GAMBLE ON THE HEAD! DIDNT GET IT RESURFACED AND MAY HAVE DONE A POOR JOB CLEANING THE BLOCK SURFACE SO I HAD TO PULL IT OFF AGAIN TONIGHT AND ITLL BE GOING TO THE MACHINE SHOP TOMORROW. Gotta resurface it and slap it back in to do more testing and debugging. I dont wanna count my chickens too soon, but atleast she fired up so the wirings gotta be sssemi ok hahahahahahah

I plan on boosting her someday. I drove like an hour away and bought a 91 CRX Si 5 speed tranny and got a D16A6 block FOR FREE! Its currently being cleaned. Ill deck it after and assemble it with some Vitara's and forged rods for a low compression boost build. It gives me a mmmassive chubby to think of legit D16A6 and Si tranny in my EF. Its like it belongs in there. Which means Ill probably build 1 more N/A motor set up for poops and giggles just to make sure I dont blow the D16A6.
I AM NOT A RACER, its about the experience and ejoyment. I see Chevy and Hot rod guys building classic works of art, THIS IS MY ELEANOR! built to my specifications! ;-)

EF LOVE!!

Looking good!
Can't wait for some nice updates. I just picked up the same color hatch as my dd and I love it. That rust looks like it will take some work but with some time you can get it done.

Ya shes coming pretty good, I finally fired her up last night. Did a Z6 head, P28 and MPFI. Unfortunately gotta pull it back apart tonight and send the head to the machine shop tomorrow. I took a gamble and slapped the head on without resurfacing...... NO VICTORY CAN BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT RISK......
Thanks man, This is my first hands on build. Ive always bought Si's or MPFI Civic's. I wanted to basically start from scratch with this one and do everything myself. I wanna do a full out restoration, hot rod style!
So I picked up my head from the machine shop and it seems like the took it apart to resurface. Dont think they bothered assembling it to spec. I have leaks all over the place. They had mentioned valves looked bent. I hate to blame the machine shop since it was a used head of craigslist, but they definitely added to the shaft..... So it looks like im S.O.L. for a little while. Im gonna see if I can get my hands on a cheap D16Y7 until I build my D16A6 for boost.
GONNA FREEZE MY ***** OFF ON THE ZX6R UNTIL THEN :'"(

Ya I plan on learning to cut it out and weld in some rockers.
In the meantime tho, I MISS MY EF!!
Ive started hunting for a full running swap, but I have very specific criteria. STILL RUNNING, I SHUT IT OFF, AND PULL IT OUT. Gotta pay a little more for a legit donor :'(

Going to be giving up my 99 Si wheels. I figure I can get 2-300$ for them with the snow tires. Spend 100$ on steelies and 150-200$ towards the motor.
Ive been looking at crashed 96+ Civic EX. I dont know tho, I already hard wired obd1 distributor. I either have to make a jumper, or redo the distributor harness.
On the other hand, Ive got a guy with a D15B7 locally for 150$
Its tough to make a decision with Xmas a couple days away.
