I am trying to figure out what is going on with my Accord.

A few weeks ago, I had to suddenly stop due to traffic and my emergency brake light came on. I travelled a short distance and my TCS light came on. I have figured out that the TCS light was triggered by the emergency brake light being on. I have had the brakes replaced and the brake fluid flushed and filled. The brake light is still on. Do I need to replace the master cylinder or is there another option?

The other issue is that my battery light has started to come on and then go off when I start my car. Once I drive a short distance, the light goes off. The shop said that I may need to replace the alternator. Any thoughts? Could either or both of these issues be sensor problems? Problems with fuses?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

there is a float either on the cap or part of the brake master cylinder. usually when they get stuck (can happen after brake fluid flush) in the fluid low position then the brake light will come on..if the float is part of the cap you can replace just the float but if its part of the master cylinder then you will have to replace the master cylinder.

as for the battery light most likely it is your alternator going out. a fast and easy way of telling if your alternator is going out is to hook up a dmm to your battery and start the vehicle and let it run, the voltage should be 13-14v with the vehicle running and 12v below means the alternator is not charging the battery..you can also remove the alternator and bring it to your local autozone and they can test it for you

 

There is a service news article on cleaning the float, on the 03 it is built into the res not the cap. You can try cleaning or replace the whole thing.

Only thing to add about the alt, be sure the belt is good and has proper tension.

 

the brake fluid sensor is built into the master cyl. To check if this is the prob while the dash brake light is on, simply unplug the connector that is in the mater cylinder. If the light goes out the sensor is the prob. Unfortunately you can not just buy the sensor from the dealer or the aftermarket and there aren't many 03 and up accords in pick and pulls yet so. And most junkyards would probably not just sell you the sensor rather the whole master cyl. As far as the battery light. First a battery test is in order. Then after a known good battery is in the car a charging sytem test should reveal any other problems if there are any.
