ok so...its been about a month that my head swap has been completed. until today i put up roughly 700 miles on it. my issue is that when i hit an empty stretch of road ex. *freeways, highways, or dead long stretch of roads. when im at my 5th gear, i feel as if it needs a 6th?.......RPMs are at 6500 almost 7k and thats doing 70-75 mph. seems a bit off to me. before the swap i hadnt driven it for about 6 months but cant recall if it has always been like that. dont get me wrong, **** pulls a lil harder, but dont like the high rpms at high gears. specially when im tryin to cruise at speed limits of 70 any input is appreciated.

swap i did is off 1990 crx si motor
D16a6 standard non vtec
with ZC soch head (only diff is camshaft)

You're either exaggerating or your tach is waaaaaaay off, especially if you didn't touch the transmission. Are you sure about those RPMs?

 

well nearly 7k. but it is at 6 to 6.5k at 70mph. it sounds too high as well.....is there a way to post vids on this?? if not ill take pics of it tomorrow. tach, and tranny havent been touched.

 

either your tach is way of or your clutch is slipping.

 

I would say your clutch is slipping. how does it pull when you take off? does it feel like it hesitates to move the car even tho your engine is accelerating fine?

 

Sorry for the delay...ok so yesterday was drivin below 70 so no issues on rpms. BUT! Did get stuck in traffic because sum ppl dont know how to drive to save their lives...saw an opening so i gunned it...when i did tho shifting to second at about 5k rpm it bogged out on me i had to let go of the gas and coast in neutral for about 5 seconds then hit second again and took off normal speed limit.....wtf could this be? This has never happened in the 4 years iv had it any thoughts?

 

Was this shift from 5000 in 5th gear?

 

No hit 2nd at almost 5000rpm..bad i know but traffic was ticking off :/
