Default I need some input on mods

I have a 97 R and I want to put on some mods that would increase horsepower. I drive this car daily and on certain dates will take this car out to the drag strip. I have been out of the sport compact scene since 2001 and just recently picked up this R. Now I'm older and want to keep this car reliable and add a few horsepower. What's good nowadays? Headers, Intake, Exhaust, ECU, Throttle bodies, etc....I want to stay away from turbos, since I want it reliable, may consider a supercharger. My budget would be $3k. Any suggestions would help. Thank you.

small turbo kits are very reliable i had the greddy turbo kit years ago had it on a civic for around 40,000 miles with no problems what so ever its once you crack the 400whp is when problems start if you get a small kit you wont have any problems if installed correctly and tuned plus its a blast to drive with the quick spool

Whoa! Those parts are expensive! That's close to or over my budget LOL! Anything else that will give me the bang for my bucks?

Supercharger. NA is costly and only gains about 25-30 hp if your lucky and go with top end parts.

What would you think about AEM cold air intake, Blox header, buddy club spec 2 exhaust?

Would upgrading my throttle body help at all with just basic bolt on upgrades? I know the ITR TB are 62mm, what size would be good?

They're fun!

Jrsc or rotrex iirc are good.

For $3k I'd be looking at boost.

Also, final drives are a nice bump and dead solid reliable.

you could also do a comptech intake, a knock off hytech, smsp, today style header and whatever somewhat cheaper cat back. Search and you can find some ITR guys selling quality parts at great prices. I know there is a hytech header and exhaust for sale on ITRCA.com

Please do a search for the BC Spec II before you decide to buy one. That "exhaust" (and I use that term loosely) should come with a warning.

And if you bought the car for straight-line speed, you probably should have gotten something else. You can achieve it, but boost is a must and IMO that ruins the nature of the B18C5.

I/H/E will net about 10-15hp and will increase torque below 4500rpms (where the car needs it). If you are looking for more than this, you're going to need to start digging into the motor itself or boost it.

I would sujest a JDM 98specR 4-1 header (best bang for the buck header), a MUGEN twin-loop exhaust and a nice Password jdm intake to start with. These mods should allow the engine to breath more and have much less restriction.

OP I'll throw in my $.02, if you ever have a boosted Honda it's very hard to go back to an N/A set up. I admit it spoiled me.
