2005 Honda Accord whizzing noise after long drive
Our 2005 Honda Accord V-6 is making a strange noise.
After driving for about 1/2 hour the car will start making a whizzing noise. Kind of a cross between a whirring and buzzing.
After the noise starts it gets louder the longer you drive. My wife drives the car to and from work. 1 hour each direction.
The first time it started I checked the transmission fluid and it was a little low. I added fluid and the noise went away for a week.
When it started again I check the fluid again it was a little low. So I added more and the noise went away for a week.
No spots on the driveway so I assume there is no leak.
Last week I had the transmission filter flushed and fluid replaced. The mechanic checked the transmission and could not find any hint of a leak.
Yesterday I drove my daughter back to school (3 hour round trip drive). I checked the fluid and it was full.
Today my wife was driving home from work and it started again.
I haven't had to chance to check the fluid but am guessing it will be a little low.
I am stumped. Any ideas?

Hopefully somebody with more knowledge than me will chime in, but IMO you have a transmission that's going bad. I had an unfortunate experience with an '99 Acura TL that exhibited similar symptoms. It didn't leak transmission fluid unless it was moving so there were no tell-tale spots on the driveway.

Check your power steering reservoir. There is a known issue with leaks from the feed hose as well as from the o-ring on the plastic fitting on the power steering pump. You should have recieved a notice of parts recall for the hose from honda Canada/America recently. Hope that this helps!

Yes,
I did get the recall notice from Honda and called them about my issue. Since the parts for the recall were not in, they suggested I take the car to a Honda dealer and have them look at it and see what they could do in the short term.
In the meantime, I did check the power steering fluid reservoir. It was a about half full. I got some power steering fluid and started pouring it in. When it got about 3/4 full, fluid started pouring out the side of the reservoir. Seems there is a crack or split right about where one of the hoses connects.
Long story short, the whizzing noise went away. The reservoir is supposed to get replaced with the recall fix so for now I just have to keep the fluid up.
