Poor throttle response... 2011 Civic w/ R18
Hi,
My girlfriend bought a manual 2011 Civic Sedan about a year and a half ago. It's a SE model (no sure you have it in the US). Basically it's fully loaded, A/C power everything with sunroof, painted door handles and mirrors, spoiler, etc... Except.... It doesn't have the 2.0L with 6 speed transmission (K20#, I think). It's with a 1.8L R18 engine with a 5 speed transmission.
I always loved how Honda engine felt (drove mostly B-series engines). I know 1.8L civic don't have much to offer performance wise, but I can't get over the excessively poor throttle response. When I push the car, not gunning it a 7k RPM, but more like 5k - 5.5k RPM to do a tight maneuver or to pass somebody and I do a quick shift (like I used to do with my GS-R or B20vtec, at the time), I get a DEAD response when reengaging the next gear. As if the car over compensated my throttle push thinking it was a bad move or mistake. The car hangs for a moment and then kicks in. It really feels like I don't know how to drive stick shift and I'm trying to push the car and shift gears. I NEVER had this kind of driving response with cable throttles before. Is there anything to be done to prevent this annoying compensation for poorly experienced drivers?

that's caused due to drive by wire technology, tunning will make throttle response slightly better, bit still not a big difference. as you say you dony live in USA so probably flashpro will not work with your ECU. pick the ECU code for your car and visit Hondata's web site you will enter the code and they will tell you if it works or not. but 90% will not. it depends about your country. you can go for Greedy e-manage ultimate or Unichip Dastek Q or Q+ version both will work. you can also tune using other options but only if your car is a full modified car not a daily use car
