Alternator noise
Hi guys,
Getting a high pitched chirping noise coming from the alternator area on my dc2 type r integra when it is revved to ~1.5-2k at idle and on startup.
I was hoping it was simply belt noise, but after tightening up the alternator belt to avail today, I need to try something different. I'm planning on removing the alternator belt all together tomorrow, and see if the noise is still there.
The questions I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out with are to do with what my options are if it is not just the belt. Could the noise be caused by the alternator pulley? I've read on the internet people solving similar noises by replacing this part, but I don't understand what could go wrong with the pully to cause such noises? The other culprit I assume could be the alternator bearings. How do I diagnose a problem with these? Spin the pully and test for any play or roughness? I had the alternator tested recently and I know it is creating charge perfectly fine which makes me think it's not a bearing issue as this would surely affect its performance.
I did a search and couldn't find a lot of info, so any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated guys.
