Anyone running an H22a with the balance shafts disabled?
The latest Honda Tuning magazine has an article on the H22a where they mention that the disabling of the balance shafts is safe and worth it as far as the power gains. Has anyone besides 2point6 done this? Curious for some feedback.

I have done it on many customer cars and on my car. Never had a problem with it. It will however cause the motor to vibrate a lil bit more.
how much more? i already have es motor mounts installed and its got a lot of vibration already... anyone you know done both?

So, by just removing the balancer shaft belt, the system is disabled? Is there a need to physically remove the balance shafts?

Removing the belt is the only thing you need to do. The vibration will not cause harm to your motor. The vibration is very mild.I have never had any problems with them and neither has any of my customers. Some have driven without the balance shafts hooked up for over 4 years and and an extra 50,000 miles on the motor. Again i can tell you from my personal experiences you can take it how you want.
more vibration probably isnt good for crank and rod bearings. especially on H series that love to spin them... just my 2 cents. i have motor mounts and mine vibrates like a bitch.
Isn't the real question, "How much additional hp will be realized by disabling them?" Whether you'd want to bother depends on the answer. Simply removing the function just to be different is no guarantee of anything.

<---- $15,000 invested into a full engine/turbo/tuning etc... did not remove balance shafts, hopefully my only problems will be a turbo wearing out. i personally want a 300whp daily driver, so i want the engine to remain in tact as long as possible.
balance shafts add an inbalanced weight to the reciprocating mass of the engine. the imbalance is out of phase with the engine's imbalance period, so the two cancel each other out. the result is a smoother, longer lasting engine and a vehicle that is more pleasant to drive.
don`t forget guys... we have two of them, one is by a belt, the other is physically turned by the oilpump gear. so you if you remove the belt and leave them in you only removed one not the other....

the balancer shafts done have anything to do with actually balancing the crank etc in the engine, they are there to keep the car from vibrating cause people dont like that, not to make the engine last longer.
I've done it, and notice a bit more vibration at high RPM...Normally I'll just take of the Balancer shaft belt at the track and at the dyno. but other than that It stays.....

man.. i gess i dont know as much as i thought.. what are u guys talking bout ? balancer shaft? 2 of them? where are these? what do they look like? any pix?
I have to agree with most everyone else here.... why would you do this for a measly 2-5hp gain?? I could see maybe doing it at a dyno, but what would be the point? To say that you have extra power when you remove things? I would also think that this would vastly change the vibrations in the motor itself, in turn affecting its longevity. You won't find me attempting to free up 2-5 extra horse by doing this.
it's similar to like balancing a tire you add weight to the opposite side of where the inbalance, the balancer shafts spin the opposite of the crank to cancel each other out, same theory.
most people that do know how or have the tools (shop etc) it`s not for everybody but it`s like going all out, everybit helps...
even if it was only 1whp I would still do it....
but i`ve heard its about 2-5whp when taking the belt off (which is only one shaft) when you take both is 3-11whp although the power band...
a dyno should tell us.

arent they both driven by the belt....?? i havent got mine all the way apart yet but what modification is necesacary to take them completly out? im going for everylittle bit i can get .......
