a little white constant smoke out at tail pipe
I recently traded a 2005 honda civicSi, K20a,5spd man.,w/short ram intake, header, and variable performance chip map,for a 1995 Honda accord w/a swap H22a1 out of a 95 prelude, I know, I've been called crazy to say the least, but this accord looks prestine inside out and the block was built w/about $13,000 in parts /labor,I couldn't resist. It's Turbo,Dyno tested @ 470hp @ 7300 rpm w/93 octane gas in 2006,But the owner put a stock head and cams,he ran out of money. I fixed the overheating problem, but recently started seeing a lil white smoke out the tail, I'm suspecting the head and valve guides. Can I change the valve guides w/out removing the head?Back In the days we ran big blocks, small blocks etc., It was pretty much chevys, fords, and mopar, before Turbos came into the picture. These days i'm trying to learn as much as I can about this new technology, cause I had to have a turbo! Thanks
well, after going to the old school of hard knocks, I found out that Garrett turbos are water cooled and oil w/a restrictor inline to lubricate the ball bearings/casing, they don't require a lot of oil.I started to take apart the turbo and found it was drenched with oil, even some oil in the compressor side heading towards the intercooler. It's about a $450 repair to rebuild the turbo, cause the so called engineers that built the engine and installed the turbo, didn't run the water lines to the turbo which decreases the heat by about a couple of hundred degrees! If I'm wrong, can somebody out there correct me? come on fellow enthusiasts, help a brother out why don't ya, thanks. PS My Turbo is a gt35 .82a/r.
well I found out that the white smoke out the tail pipe is not valve guides, but turbo seals.I got the turbo rebuilt for$250, good deal @ mike turbo in north miami.I've put it back in with a nice thick sleeve, for heat, eliminated a 90 degree turn on the return side to the oil pan,as it is gravity that drains the chocolate foam oil from the turbo, and a 90 degree would cause a serious back up problem to the turbo, the tap at the oil pan is above oil level, which is required,it looks like it should work fine.I'm ready to prime the turbo before starting it up and I'm putting in an oil cooler, relocating the filter for better accessability, but I could use some ideas as to where I should Tap into my cooling system to run my water lines to and fro the Turbo.
