System almost in but I'm getting distortion
Allright guys, I hope you can help me. I am a novice at stereo stuff so please forgive me.
This is the setup that I am running in my 00 ITR. I have: Alpine 7894 deck, Cerwin Vega 6 1/2" all around a Kicker Solobaric S10L7, a Punch 500 for the sub and a Punch 100 for the rears (old triangle style).
Here is my problem. I only had time to install the deck last night becuase it got dark. I installed the front speakers running from the deck but when I turn the volume up, I get distortion in all my speakers.
At first I thought I connected them incorrectly so I switched the positive/negative wires around but still I got distortion.
Next I thought it may be my wiring with the new deck so I plugged the old factory deck back into the factory harness and still I have distortion.
I really don't know what else to do. I am thinking about re-running all the wires but I just don't know.
Any help is very appreciated.

use the punch 100 for the fronts. run new wire from the amp to the front speakers. Use the deck power for the rears. This will be a nice setup.
As for the distortion, it's probably a bad ground wire to the reciever or like you thought a speaker wire might have shorted, so just run new wires.
For the ground, just run a wire from the chassis of the car to the reciever. Make sure to sand the paint from the chassis.

There are no wires shorted. The ground has been run to the chasis already. I am going to try to run all the interior speakers to the amp, if thay doesn't work then I will just take that **** to Cartoys. **** afterall, I don't know **** about car audio
have u tired the original ground wire on the connector? I've done 3 h/u installs on honda civics with the original ground wire, and none of them distorts at low to mid levels. Most receivers will distort at high volumes. Usually around 3/4 of the way up, so if u have a receiver that has like volume up to 40, then you'll probably hear distortion with the volume around 33-40.
I found the problem guys. It was a blown rear factory speaker that caused all the distortion. Everything is all good now.
