loves and hates of my first honda
so im about to make my intro here on h-t. I have finally joined the honda relm and got a 89 sedan. When the car came into my possession it had all 4 blown struts, front had neuspeed drop springs, on the rear someone had changed the left control arm for a stamped unit and the right side had a cast control arm with factory springs so the car had one hell of a rake. lol Other than trash suspension there was some goodies with the car. It did have nice DA front seats and was b16a swap with a ls cable trans. A short time after i got it. It acted like it backfired and started knocking. Knowing the history on the engine that was swapped in the car had me puzzled. The engine had been in a friend of mines Da and ran good, was never ragged on or anything like that. So i dropped the oil pan and #1 rod had spun. cut a nasty groove into the crank. So motor shot. The day the motor when down my new wheels and tires arrived, and the modding started from there.
the wheels i bought were rota ck racing wheels 15x7.5, and a set of 195/50 dunlop dz101s. My uncle bought me some cheapy ebay rear control arms for my birthday. I know it is ebay crap, but hey cant beat free. lol a set of FnF type 1's where purchased along with blox rear trailing arm spherical bearings, and camber adjusters for the rear. A set of skunk 2 front upper control arms came in also. Also when i got the car a energy suspension master bushing kit came with it.
i had found a guy local selling a b16a with a (was told) good rotating assembly for 60 bucks, so jumped on it. After i got it on the table and started plasti-gauging, the rods turned out good, then went on to the mains. Journal #3 was beyond trash. so at this time i had all my suspension goodies installed just waiting getting the engine finished. After this bad news i was down to a set of pr3 and p30 pistons, and a good head. Good thing it was only 60 bucks. Gamble you take i guess. So in the mean time the car is factory lx gray with a white front bumper and rear trunk lid. i went and bought dupli-color black bumper and trim paint and painted the f and r bumpers.
One drunk night me and my uncle had an idea for my white trunk lid. (If flaming needs to be done go for it) I found me a can of red ford tractor (i work at a caseih/newholland dealer) paint and painted the rising sun flag on it. I know it has been played out and over done but hey, it will only stay like this still i repaint the whole car. It has to run and drive first. Me not being satisfied with the car yet, i taped off the wiper arms and trim around all the windows and painted the nasty chipping crome trim with the matching trim/bumper black. It is starting to look decent. The previous owner painted the engine bay nasty dollar store rattle can gold. It is in the process of getting repainted the same red on the trunk lid. When i can ill post up some pics of the process.

Ok, I know you said you thought you would get flamed for the trunk lid, but DAMN that looks sweet. Paint the car white, or red.. and you wont have to get rid of it. Rota's look good too.
that nasty rattle can gold engine bay is getting painted the same color red as is on the trunk. My engines eta is the 21. I may have a honda driving for xmas. lol
i would do a lsv but i dont have anyone close to me that can help me with a basemap to make it run correctly so im just doing a stock b16 for reliabilty. Now the reason why i cant throw a good crank is because where the half shaft bolts to the side of the motor, the tabs where the bolts go have been broken off. the engine that was in the car was in a roll over.
right after the form and funtions type 1's installed. look test
after the engine was in a roll over the bolt holes holding this on got broke off, so the guy i got the car from, took and welded this on and tried to make it work. fail
this is what happens when someone orders a standard bearing set from advance autoparts and installs them on a honda. guy didnt know about the color codes.

after i got everthing in and buttoned up, turn key forward, no main relay click and solid CEL. i didnt have time to trouble shoot it last sunday due to having to go to work, ill get to that another day.
swapped out the main relay, and she fires up. has rough idle. after you turn the key to "on", fuel pump cycles and primes, CEL stays on, ecu blinks once. once it is started it blinks once, then three times. according to be book, that is code1 o2 sensor, and code 3 map. while it is running, you can unplug the map, idle goes high but smooths out, little to no throttle response.
in the process of the install, i noticed a broke orange wire this one here

i connected it and didnt change the way it ran
here is a pic me topping off the fluids

put the headlights in, looking more like a car now

i looked under the hood of this car (my uncles) to look at the vacuum lines(look at my jeep hiding in the background.)lol

here are some pics of me fashioning up a short ram intake
that looks like a good spot to cut it

short ram is short. lol
