So I just replaced my dizzy 3 days ago on my 93 civic 1.5 dx and all my car problems i was having stopped. car was running smooth, timing was good, etc. Driving on the freeway on my way to work, my car started sputtering, then lost power. car wouldnt start again, so I had to tow it home. I tried turning it over, and it cranks, but no spark is coming from the dizzy. A buddy of mine told me that it could be a defective distributor, or my ecu is bad. I am gonna exchange the dizy, but i looked inside the ecu and some of the sauder points for the connecting clips look rusted or dirty. I cant seem to attach pictures of what the ecu looked like, but this thread has them.

Can this cause my ecu to not work? I am pretty new to these forums, and I hope I have explained it well enough. please help if you can. thanks

 

A bad ECU is a possibility, but rule out other items first.

For example:

1) Have you checked whether timing belt snapped or stripped?

2) Any CEL codes?

3) Does the Blk/Yel wire attached to the coil and ICM have battery voltage?

 

Thanks for the response, and I dont think the timing belt snapped, because it would crank without any roughness, but no spark to turn it over. There were no CEL lights on either. I decided to exchange the distributor first to see if that was defective(Im hoping so). Unfortunately they have to order the part, so I will know more maybe tomorrow or monday. I would like to check to see if the timing belt needs to be replaced soon, but is there another way besides to take it apart?

 

Remove the hood ECU fuse and the distributor cap. Does the rotor turn when you crank the engine?

 

Good news the distributor was the problem. It was defective, now the car runs great. Thanks for the responses
