hello to all--
i have a 1995 del sol 1.6 DOHC VTEC with about 220k. when the key is turned to the first position (accessory) the trouble lights don't come on and when turned to the start position there is nothing, not even a click most times. if i play around with the key in the ignition sometimes i can get the trouble lights to come on and the car will crank but not start. the battery is good; i do have an alarm but that doesn't seem to be an issue. a few months before i noticed that when starting the car the ignition seemed to have a problem, when i turned the key it locked up on occasion and i couldn't get past the accessory position. i would take the key out and try again and it would work smoothly. any ideas?--thanks

Maybe go to your local honda dealer, and ask around for a replacement ignition (and/or locks).

 

I guess you have to spell it out. Get a new ignition switch. He describes that the switch was faulty and wonders what the problem could be? He answered his own question.

 

thanks for the input, i wasn't sure if there may be another issue as well. i was told by others (not from this forum) that it was the ecu, alarm or igniter. can i replace the ignition myself, how difficult is it? and which component is most likely bad just the ignition lock cylinder, the ignition control module or both?
