d16y8, dx 5speed cable trans and p28 ecu. dizzy wiring.
Alright guru's of honda. I have been doing tons of research on the swap that I will be performing when i decide i'm not to lazy haha. Anywho here is the setup that i have collected over the past few months. Picked up a y8 from a 98 civic si, a dx transmission from an 89 hatch, and a p28 ecu from a civic eg. now my question is: If i am using the obd2 distributor and the original obd0 harness and I have a jumper harness for the ecu. Can I rewire the dizzy wiring to the obd0 plug that connects to the original harness.
You HAVE TO HAVE a vtec dizzy. Unless you somehow managed to use an obd0 b16 dizzy(not capable.) then you're ok. They make a jumper harness for the dizzy as well.
It can be done. I just did it with an obd1 distributor. I put an obd1 plug on the engine harness but had to trim the wire connectors for them to fit in the new plug.

I have read on the differences between the vtec and non-vtec dizzy's. I will be using the obd2 dizzy (y8) but the question (if I am stating it wrong is): make an adapter to go from obd2 dizzy to my original obd0 harness. OR! could I potentially keep the engine harness the same and repin the dizzy to mate with my obd0 engine harness. Do they not have the same amount of wires .
Aka. obd0 plug on my obd2 dizzy. plug and play I would think. ??
took me about 15 minutes to re-pin. most of that was spent slightly trimming the rubber grommets on each wire as they are larger on obd0 than the obd1 plug needed. probably going to be the same with the obd2 plug.

I have a y8 in my ef and I'll share my experience.
p28 is not proper for this. Get it chipped with the so called y8 basemap or use a z6 cam gear I've heard.
The ignition/distributor timing will always be off if you don't.
The obd1 distributor can be used but severe spark advance is required. Same issue with obd2 distributor unless you get a y8 basemap.
With that much advance, you'll blow your motor, it's just a matter of time.
I toasted my first y8 w/ stock p28 and obd2 y8 distributor...
My current one has a chipped obd1 ecu w/ y8 basemap. Y8 distributor. Perfect ignition timing.
Learn from my mistakes.
Ps. An si transmission makes a big difference.

Good info, thanks. always something to be learned. As for the dx tranny. I chose to go with this one because I am not looking for a fast car, just a car that can get me through traffic. this is a daily driven car. plus I would have to source an si tranny here, which is about as hard as finding a sasquatch.

I guess I'm lucky with my Si tranny w/ no grinds lol.
