90 crx si tie rod too short
Picked up a new little project, its a 90 crx si with the dohc zc in it. Pretty rough looking car, pretty rough sounding car. But the most major problem im trying to handle right now is the tie rods are short. I took the car to get it put in line because of it being nearly impossible to drive and they told me they had the tie rods at the max adjustment and they were still too short so my tires are both pointing away from each other. i had them show me so i could confirm it and they are not lying, too short. Took the tie rod, inner and outer, off the car and to autozone to compare to the stock ones. They are the same. Ive though the frame could be bent or maybe it has a different rack in it? either way would it be okay to perhaps get like a 89 integra inner tie rod since they are so much longer and try to fabricate my own? Thoughts?
Checked the steering rack and compared it to pictures of the stock ones and they look to be the right ones. knuckles were stamped lh3 and rh3. LCA were stamped lsh3 and rsh3. Dont really know what those stamps stand for but were the only ones i could find.
Your rack and pinion is more than likely moved to one side way too far. That's why your having issues. I would re-center the rack so that both sides where the tie rods screw into are even and then re-adjust your tie rods. You might want to check and see if your rack is still good or missing teeth.
