Default 89 crx dies at idle

I have an 89 crx with a d16y7 in it. It used to idle fine with some fluctuation at times. Then it got worse as the weather cooled down. It would go away after the vehicle warmed up. Now it fires right up but dies if I don't keep the revs up. Driving around its fine until I come to a stop a it dies instantly if I take my foot off the throttle. I had issues with the main relay before so I pulled that lastnight and re-soldered it to no avail. It's not flooding as the plugs are clean and dry with no fuel smell. Could it be the IACV? Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. Also I'm Honda stupid so bare with me. I'm used to old carved muscle cars, not this with all the sensors and electronics.

IACV could definitely be part of it, another thing you could check is TPS sensor. there should be 3 wires, green for ground, red is signal and yellow is 5v DC. take a multimeter and put it on volts dc and back probe the red wire, it should be the center wire of the 3. At idle it should measure .5v and full throttle should measure 4.5v, make sure when you open the throttle to do it slowly and make sure when the voltage rises that it does so smoothly, if it jumps voltages it might have a dead spot in it. if it looks good, make sure idle is set to .5v by unscrewing the screws and turning the sensor to acquire the correct voltage, if it's the stock TPS sensor it will be more difficult to do it because you have to grind grooves into the screws because there are no heads on the screws. another easy thing to try is take off your IACV and clean the screen really well and spray it down with brake cleaner, let dry and then put back on.

Also make sure your base idle is set properly.

Ok well I just looked an the TPS isn't Hooke up to anything an there is no plug for it. No sure who did the swap but they didn't do it right. However it's been running and idling this whole time without it which leads me to believe that it's not the TPS. I Dont know how to set the base idle on this. Didn't see a screw anywhere.

If the TPS isn't connected the car will run fine because the ECU has a set default program it goes by if the tps fails or is disconnected. So you need to find a way to hook it up. The car will run rich by default because its not connected.

The idle screw will be a small Allen screw with a small nut on it. The lever that turns your throttle plate, the one that has your throttle cable wrapped around it, there should be a lip that stops it at idle, and the screw is screwed to it underneath. if that makes any sense. I'll see if i can get a picture if you need it.

there should be a 2 pin connector near your ECU, take a wire and short it out, by sticking each end of the wire in the holes, turn your key on and the CEL will flash, remember the number of times it flashes and remember if the flashes are short or long, it should repeat it 3 times and then go on to the next code if there is one. if its like one short and 2 long the code is 12, and then google CEL codes

It could be a bad MAF but your car would run really shitty if it was. they are expensive to replace.

thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure its not a bad MAF, you would have different symptoms and more problems, you would hardly be able to drive it.

Oh ok. Thanks. I'm cleaning the IACV now. The screen was so nasty I originally thought it was a rubber plug. And the connector had bare wires touching from the moron who did the swap and hacked the harness. I also found the TPS Connector by my exhaust. Seems he ran the main harness below the engine for some unknown reason. Is the ECU under the hood? And again, thanks for all the help. I can rebuild a carb n tune it no problem, but figuring out all these sensors is a nightmare.

Ok. I cleaned the IACV with no luck. Raised the idle and that seemed to fix it. And the connector to the MAF was loose and would loose connection n regain it constantly. Fixed. Thanks for the help

yeah no problem, the ECU is on the passenger side, near the floor behind a plastic cover next to the door, and the 2 pin connector is tucked up above it, it might be in a green rubber holder.
