Default 95 eg hb b18 swap (low budget build)

started a build on my civic. swapping in a b18b with a gsr tranny. nothing to special. just a low budget build. pulling all the parts off a totalled integra. plan on swapping a b18b and doing a disk break conversion. this is my first swap ive ever done. im basically doing this with all the info ive retained from the faqs from this forum. so here it goes. heres some pic of my progress.

got the ls motor pulled out of the donor car. and pulled the automatic trans off. i also got some my gsr shift linkage, starter, clutch and flywheel, and msd ignition. gonna bolt up the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. and bolt up the 5 spd trans to the motor. then should be ready to drop the motor in.

got a couple of questions if anybody can help. picked up this trans the other day. guy said it was a gsr trans. since there wasnt any codes on it im wondering if it really is a gsr. been reading the faqs and the only way to check is by pulling it apart and counting teeth on the final drive. is there anyother way? do the ls cases look exactly like gsr cases. and another thing im trying to identify this plug and what sensor it goes to. the the plug that runs from the bottom side of the tranny. any help?

I wouldn't know... It's probably not a bad Idea to pull the case apart anyways and peek inside to see if there's any damage. Getting the case apart is actually pretty easy.

Yeah ive heard and read that its not to hard. It seems like a lot of work. Was just trying to see if there was an easier way. I guess i should take ur advise and pull it a part just in case there is some damage. It will probably save me work in the long run. Thanks

ls and gsr have same case, you would have to count teeth on say third gear to get a good idea

But otherwise keep it up, first time doing a swap is the best.

So took my tranny apart and its in pretty good shape. Counted the teeth on the last gear and the final drive and divided the 2. Like it said on the faqs. And it came out to be 4.400 so it turns out its a s80 gsr trans . For only 200 bucks not bad. But after i put it back together i was bolting up the starter i noticed that one of the holes was threaded and only one bolt would screw it? Is there a nut im supposed to put on the bolt inside of the clutch housing? Has anybody ran into this problem?

There should be one long bolt and one short bolt, no nuts inside the case for the starter as far as I remember

Good luck!

I can't wait till the weather warms up so that I can do this to my EJ. I got a donor DC4 with a B18B1 w/ B16 (Y21) trans, along with some boltons, ES Inserts and moates demon on my p75 ECU.

The starter is held on with two bolts, a shorter one that threads into the tranny housing and a longer bolt that goes through the tranny housing and threads into the engine block. Don't put the starter on until the tranny is bolted to the engine, it will make it much harder to line up the input shaft.

That sensor on the bottom of the tranny is for the reverse lights. If you're using the Integra's engine harness that plug should be in the same loom of wires that run under the distributor.

Alright thanks for clearing that up for me. A friend of mine suggested to get a itr final drive kit. He says its a world of difference. He has the same set up in his hatch b18b1 with a gsr tranny and a itr final drive kit.i guess he smokes ls, ls-vtec swapped cars and keeps up if not beats some b16s. Does anybody have a itr final drive kit gsr tranny? Im thinking since i have the tranny off it might be worth getting.
