Only seems to happen when I'm in gear and stopped at a light or in traffic. Tach isn't moving but the entire car is shaking it seems.

All I've done recently is a new o2 and new plugs.

 

Check resistance on all spark plug wires. One or more could be bad causing misfiring. Check for good connections on the spark plugs.

 

would the gap have anything to do with it. the guy at advance looked it up and said that they should've been correct out of the box

 

It's a possibility.

 

I have a similar issue in my 94 EX. Everything drives fine, but as soon as I stop at a light or stop sign, it gradually starts to vibrate the car until I start moving again.

I haven't come across any threads or posts in my search for this issue, and I've replaced wires, cap, plugs, cleaned carbon build up in the intake system ie. TB, IAC, manifold. The next on my to-do list are the EGR ports.

 

Shaking car at idle? That sounds more like potential motor mounts failing to me..

 

I have the same problem. Found my front mount was missing the thru bolt (don't know how it came out). Replaced it but I still have a slight shaking at idle. Gonna replace the mount this weekend I think the rubber seal is gone.

 

i'll have to look into the mounts and see how they look. it doesn't shake all the time so not sure if thats a sign of a mount or not?

 

what is the tach showing at idle? how many rpms

 

Bosch for some reason are pre-gapped. Pretty much everything else needs to be gapped.

 

stays steady at just a tick under 1k. no surging up and down.

 

I have a similar problem on my 91 lx. Engine wise i have done everything and beyond as far as a tune up procedure. I Am Looking into oem replacment engine mounts because i've been through everything else and its a logical explanation at over 190k mile.

 

could be an egr problem.....have the intake manifold egr ports ever been cleaned? it may also be a bad engine mount. oh and also, has the timing belt been changed lately? if so... maybe the balance shaft is not timed properly, if not.... maybe the balance shaft belt is broken or gone bad.

 

egr replaced about 3 weeks ago. ports weren't cleaned. timing belt changed prior to me buying it back in april/may.

crazy that all of it started when i replaced the plugs/o2 last week.

 

Having just cleaned my own EGR ports, I will say that if you replaced the EGR and DIDN'T clean the ports, you really haven't accomplished anything.

 

Hi Guys. Im new to this site however have a great deal of insight into the 90 Honda Accord. I have driven mine year round since 2000 as second owner and have over 500K on it. Still drives better than most new cars. Also she still looks brand new!

Ok back on topic here. Shaking at stop. Mine did the same thing yet RPM was very stable. I cleaned every valve and especially the EGR which made a huge difference in the hunting idle issue. Dont forget to clean and vacum out the ports. Turns out my shaking issue was directly linked to a faulty MAP sensor located in the control box. DO NOT REPLACE JUST THE MAP SENSOR WITHIN THE BOX.
These sesnors use to be integral to the Throttle body but somebody decided it would be a great idea to have all these small parts co-located in one area. Actually it was pretty brilliant. Now just try to find this control box location on any site and you get a diagram of whats in the box. Its located attached to the passenger side firewall by 2 - 10mm bolts on each side and has 3 air tubes coming out the top and two at the bottom. The light bulb goes on when you finally identify it. I got three out of the wreckers out of cars with less than 100K and takes 2 mins to remove and about 5 to install. Try to keep all the hoses intacte and be careful to place them back in same locations. Each hose is numbered.

These sensors are very sensitve yet are vital to smooth operation. I replaced an entire control box and rough idle stopped.

i've pulled them all and started fresh and its still doing it. what could i be missing with it?

 

 

Ive had Honda Techs in their garage tell me you can only use NGK proprly gapped plugs or Honda Plugs only. It does make a difference.

 

i agree...i ran into a problem when i replaced my plugs.....i thought putting different plugs in would make it run better but all it did was cause a spark knock at high rpm.....the spark plug type and part number was on a label on the underside of my hood.....if you don't have those plugs in it try them...the wrong plugs will definately cause performance issues
