Icon6 Bearing clearance help!!

I am in the process of checking the clearances of my main journals using the chart supplied by Laskey Racing and running into some issues.

Journal 1

After measuring my inside diameter of bearing tunnel (2.3221") - outside crank diameter (2.1646") = .1575"

Now to achieve my desired clearance of .0018".....1575" - .0018" = .1557"

Using a black bearing at the loosest possible has a thickness of .1566 which give me a clearance of .0012 How to I achieve the clearance I need if I am going off the chart? Thinking my measurements might be off I popped in a set of ACLs and plastigauged them. On the same journal I get a reading of .001 which does in fact backup that my clearances are entirely too tight. Now what are my options?

Talk to your machine shop, let them know what you are trying to achieve. Machining the crankshaft journals will increase the clearance. Are you increasing the clearance to get higher RPMs out of the motor?

I would double check on the bearing availability. Using thinner bearings would increase the journal clearance. Another option is to have a good machine shop do a short block for you.

Your best option is ACL Race HX. They will give you +.001" additional clearance.

I am increasing the clearance because my hp goals will be around 500. More bearing clearance means more oil flow to the bearings. From what I have been told .0018-.0020 is a good clearance to run for my application. Using a black bearing, the thinnest Honda makes will not achieve this. I guess my only option is an align hone. Thank you for the responses I will contact my machine shop tomorrow and see what they can do.

Muck, I already have a set of standard ACL I would hate to buy another set. Also the race hx's would all be one size I would still have to align bore to ensure they all had even clearance correct?

Negative. Why would you have to align bore for HX but not for std ACLs that you already have? You don't. The clearences dont have to be even. Id aim for anything between .0015 ~.0020". Plus a new set of mains is far far cheaper than align bore and you can still sell your std ACLs.
