Default 2000 civic lx plug wire fell off while driving now wont start

I just got done installing a heater core in my 2000 civic lx yesterday and on the way home the car stalled and would not start back up. I found one of the plug wires had fallen off the distributor on the highway so i reconnected it and i still get nothing.

When the car died it had some power loss a few moments before and then it just shut down. Did this cause any serious damage? What could cause the car to still not start?

Thanks guys

check for blown fuses and be more specific like is it no crank no start or does it crank but not start

Sorry it just cranks and cranks. I will go check the fuses when I go check for spark today.

Probably fried your coil, test it

I agree with it likely being the coil -- I've seen them go when people pull off plug wires with the car running. The last bad coil that I had gave the same resistance readings as the brand new one that I replaced it with so you can't always tell if they're bad with a multimeter.

I agree with the posts above.
My coil dumped on my acura while it was idling in the parking lot.
Luckily I had a hunch my coil was acting up, and had the replacment with me

im sorry to thread jack. but this kinda goes with my car. i had my dizzy off my car. (marked it so timing isn off) and then when i put it back on i forgot the actual wires. not the spark plug wires but the ones that run to it. then it would just crank and crank. could this cause the coil to fry also.

most likely not. You can disconnect your dissy wires when testing for compression in the cylinders. You don't want the car to start.

Nice job thread jacker.

UPDATE

i changed the ignition coil to a new accel one and the car fired right up, I let it idle for a few minutes then went in the house. Came back out the following morning and now the car just cranks and cranks like it did before.

What in the hell?

just checked fuse 9 (ignition) and it is not blown.

Sure, the fact that it's a cheap aftermarket replacement could. Either return it for another new one, or return it, get your money back, and buy an OEM Honda unit.

i just pulled the distributor out and brought it inside, The coil tests fine on the multimeter.
Accel isn't really cheap products i didn't think? I Was under the impression they made pretty decent stuff?

I Just dont understand how i could start the car up and it fires right up, then the next day i get nothing?

Could my igniter be bad?
Will a bad igniter cause coils to blow?

Accel isn't Honda, that's my point. Also, when I was doing the maintenance work for a local cab company, Accel coils blew left and right - we stopped using them after 7 went bad (5 total cars) in less than a month.

Does the car sit and crank but not turn over, or does it not try to crank at all? These ignition systems are 12+ years old - when one part goes bad and you replace it, the new fully functioning part puts more stress on other older components. You might just be dealing with a new failure.

If it cranks but doesn't turn over, when were your plugs and wires last replaced? Do you get bright white spark at all four when testing?

Agreed. Accel coils are meh.

I was going to suggest, before I read all the way to the bottom of this thread, that you pick up an ignitor and keep it handy. They often fail not too long behind the coil. If your replacement coil tests good that would be my immediate next suspect.

the plugs and wires have about 2000 miles or less on them.

The car cranks over but just doesnt want to start, I Have not tested the spark yet since i took the distributor off, I Will test that next.

1) www.hondaautomotiveparts.com does.

2) See attached. From 92-95 HELM manual, but the igniter is the same.

put a used OEM distributor in today and the car will not start still.

This is almost exactly what the car sounds like :

I Put that accel coil in after the original problem and it started and idled GREAT until i shut it off, Went out the next morning and no start. Replaced with oem used distributor and still no start.

Really getting lost here.

While someone cranks it are you getting a spark? Test that first and come back...
