o2 sensor wiring help 91 integra
well today i installed my RMF header and i had to extend the o2 wire a decent amount for it to reach down to the new location. i got a piece of 16 guage wire and used butt connectors and then taped over that, the problem i am having is that the sensor is giving bad readings now and making my car stumble and miss at low rpms in 1st and 2nd gear, i've ton a lot of research and am wondering if theres a way to fix this ASAP as this is my only car
the o2 wire is shielded. shielding is used to keep out interference. it's a sensitive signal, reading in millivolts, so the shielding is necessary.
maybe you can find some shielded wiring to splice in. keep in mind though that extending wires results in added resistance which results in a voltage drop. maybe part of the problem. remember, the voltage reading is sensitive. so any added resistance becomes a liability. even butt connections.
also, butt connectors wrapped in tape, especially on the exterior of the vehicle, is unacceptable.

yea i just went to oreillys and bought a new o2 sensor, this one has a 19'' lead on it so i think i can take my plug off the block and move it backwards some and be able to make it without cutting anything, i'll update in a bit as i gotta find a way to get my car off the ground so i can work on it..i hate not being at school and having a lift at my disposal
well heres the update
well i just got the new bosch unit, clipped apart a bunch of the wrapping in the bay and pulled the o2 sensor harness wire as far to rear of the motor as i could..didn't get as far as i hoped so i ended up extending the o2 wire AGAIN, but this time i had the wiring from the Old o2 sensor, got that, some butt connectors, heat shrink tubing, and 3M electrical tape..got it all in and it seems to be working alright so far, pulled negative terminal let car sit with no load on running for 20 mins and took for test drive..runs great!!
heres some pics anyway
custom made jack, drove up on brick, from brick to spare tire, then put brick under stock jack lol

my new extended bosch sensor

and this is as far as i could move the o2 plug from the harness, its almost near the trottle body
