Default The Retrofit Source HID Kits

[I've already searched the HTech forums with limited results.]

Anyone have experience with these? Found some informative DIYs on other forums but I'm curious to get the HTech opinions about it. Anyone done it on their 96-00 Civic?

What do you guys think?

Yes, it's amazing, and the only proper way to run HIDs.

It'll take a day of your time, and your oven won't smell good for a day or two afterwards, but it's well worth it. Also, get some Nissan headlight sealant - you can find it online.

Take a look at the morimoto mini's. Fairly easy to install, and you'll be much better off then with a pnp kit.

I would buy the morimoto's myself, but i'm lazy and would probualy never install them.

This is the specific kit I bought, because I already had a PnP kit that was glaring like a ************. AMP/D2S adapters are solidly made, Morimoto 3Five bulbs are bright and clear, and I love the beam pattern from my FX-R housings.

Thanks for the input fellas

I've been wanting a better solution for my headlights but don't want to be that guy with eBay HIDs in my OEM housing, blinding opposing traffic.

I'm considering the BI-XENON: MORIMOTO MINI H1 5.0 with 4300k HIDs (going for the OEM and functional look). That should be just enough, right?

But I'm also thinking about buying an OEM-style pair of headlights from eBay to install them into because my OEM headlights are in great condition and I don't want to risk ruining them. What do you guys think?

Do you guys have pics of your installs?

Jbpnoman: do you really see a difference in having the larger projector and different brand HID/ballast?

The Mini H1s get a lot of good reviews, I just personally liked the beam pattern from the FX-Rs better. I haven't seen the Mini H1s in person, but I spent a few days Googling around looking at pictures before I made the decision.

I went the eBay housing route as well. The biggest complaints about eBay housings are A) leaky seals, and B) shitty beam patterns from sub-par reflectors. You'll be resealing the housings during the projector retrofit, so any leaking can't be blamed on the fact that they're cheap eBay housings, and the reflectors are no longer an issue, since you aren't even using them.

I can't say that I notice a difference with different ballasts, since I've only always had my Phillips ballasts.

I looked at those aswell. They are "better", but aren't as easly to install.

the morimoto goes in without having to mod the headlight.

Eh, a little bit of Dremel work isn't exactly hard. I'll trade 15 minutes of work for the FX-R beam pattern any way of the week.

Deffinetly not that hard, I agree.

I was torn between the 2, I honestly still haven't made up my mind.
Hell, I'm still tossing the TSX, or **** it and go TL idea around.

I thought about the TSX/TL idea, but sourcing the FX-R housings was just easier, so that's how I went. I'll admit to my laziness on occasion

i work for TRS, the mini's are my personal favorite, and are SO easy to install, ( i can install for whoever lol i do it for the d -series guys) there is a write up on here how to do it ( i think it was from HT,) i have one as well somewhere i'll have to dig it up and make a thread, but for the price and how easy they are to install you CANNOT beat them they are great, light output is sooooo much better than shitty PnP hid's and the look is priceless, the 96 and up are the easiest to install but you can do it in EG's and ED/EF's without any issues as well, its all pretty much the same, there are some nice shortcuts to save you some time to and keep you from having to really put alot of work into adjusting your lights.

on another note the new TRS relay harness is MEH the ground leads are on both sides and really short making it hard to find a decent place to ground the relays and hide the ballasts.

Wow, great info. Thanks guys.

Do you have any pics of your kits installed on your cars? Now I'm curious to see the differences between the FXR/TL/mini beam patterns.

Nice. Thanks guys.

I've owned a couple E46s, B6 A4, and a 987 Cayman...all with HID/Projectors. Once you have those kind of lights it's hard to go back to plain halogens. I'm excited to find these kits though - makes for an awesome project and a unique Civic.

I also noticed that TRS puts out some coupons every now and then, I might hold off until one of those sales/discounts/coupons surface again, unless they have sales for Xmas.

Still though, $150 for a complete kit is a stellar deal - I might just bite the bullet and pick up a set sooner than later.

minis are good for the money and ease of installation.. the fx-rs are better like jpnoman said but they do require more work than the minis.. if you have the time and money, i would say go with the fx-rs or something better than the minis..

Output is more intense, cutoff is wider, high beam is better.. its just the way the projector is made..

So better overall projector. I see.

I think for my daily driving the Minimoto 5.0 will do just fine. Any upgrade from the stock halogens will be a huge step up.

So I placed my order last night for the BI-XENON: MORIMOTO MINI H1 5.0 with 4300k HIDs. TRS was offering 10% off for thanksgiving and the total with tax, shipping, and 4300K HIDs was only $115. Can't wait to get them.

In the meantime I'm trying to find a set of OEM headlights in good condition to use for the retrofit (my current OEM headlights are in great condition for their age and I don't want to risk ruining them).

Now I have a question for you guys: will the HID's harness and wiring plug directly into my current OEM wiring?
I've installed HIDs in the past, but they've only been plug & play because if I had H7 headlights, I'd order the H7 HID kit.
Here, the Mirimotos are H1 and stock Civic headlights are not...

You should have ordered the whole kit with ballasts.. that way you could have ordered an h4 harness
