HELP ex. mani. studs broke in head
hello i managed to break exhaust studs off in my hand, with that said i got them out with a left handed pitch drillbit and a easy-out. now the fun part is trying to locate some new ones none of the parts houses understand what im telling them and they are handing me the flange bolts with the spring on them and the studs are NOT available unless you buy a cylinder head. my question is can i use some grade 8 threaded stock and a nylock nut or even a grade 8 bolt and aint-sieze?
please help me out
please help me out
Find a better parts store....double nut one of the other studs and remove it. Take it to a good parts store and find a double ended stud.....guess here. 8m X 1.25, prob 40mm in overall length...dorman 675-579 might work...google it and see if the pic is close to what you are needing.
been instore with a stud in hand and they where taking me to the dorman flange bolt and a locking stud kit for fords and GMs...honda dealer has them but only in a set and want a arm leg and johnsonville... napa looked at me stupid advance was trying to sell the kits for v-8s and oreilly was trying to day the flange bolt will work but is clearly way too long of a shank
i wish there was an ace close by only one close to town is about an hour and a half away whats the thought about a grade 8 bolt or some thread stock and nylock nuts?

Most parts stores around me carry standard blackened M8x1.25 studs and nuts and sell them as singles. I just bought 10 last week at CarQuest for a couple bucks. Shouldn't be that hard to find if you have a parts store service person who knows anything about cars. One who doesn't go by what the computer ways and always tries to sell you the most expensive part they list.....

Again, these are simple double ended studs. Only need to know a few measurments and we are done....overall length, shoulder length, then the length of each threaded part....or skip the first and give the last three as it will add up.
It has been years since I actually sold parts for a living, around '95 when I got out of that part of the business.....and Ghost, I worked for Carquest
so Thank you for some business.
Someone puts a Dana 60 or Ford 9 inch in the rear of their GM with GM trans and needs a UJ that will fit the driveshaft to the yoke.....you don't "look that up in the computer". You get the spec's of the two UJ's in question (the one that fits the driveshaft and then the one that fits the rear end) and then find one that will work/connect the two.
I've guessed at the spec's of the stud needed based upon what I've seen on my 95.....if you could give the exact spec's (threaded lengths and shoulder length) I bet I could find a few part numbers for you.....even if you can't do metric measurements give me the SAE ones and I can/will convert.
EDIT: damn, I just looked at the post by holmes. The description is 8 X 38, so my overall length is only off by 2mm.....not bad. Of course the threaded lengths and shoulder guesses could be off but almost nailed the overall
....maybe I should go back to selling parts for a living ? If you walked in and handed me the stud you needed, I'd measure it out and then find what you needed.
