Advice on what Honda to buy
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums and I have a very important question... at least as far as I'm concerned
If someone has posted this EXACT same question, my bad. If so just post a link to the thread.
I'm looking to buy a Honda/Acura... my goals for this Honda/Acura is for it to not only be to beat my fathers Mustang in a race but also to hold it's own against most of the Honda/Acuras in my city.
I have called one of the import performance shops in my city and got some really bad news. I LOVE Preludes, had a 1994 right out of high school and have loved them ever since. BUT the guy at the shop told me not to get a Prelude if I want speed. He told me with a Prelude I'm very limited in what I can do and it weights too much.
Question is... can I get a Prelude to beat a 300hp Mustang?? Also will it be able to compete with the local Civics?
I was told to look for the following models of Honda/Acura.. because they are light and they take very well to modifications. I will list them in the order given to me, I think he made the list based on weight and the ability to take mods and swaps.
LIST:
92-95 Civic
96-2000 Civic
99-2000 Civic Si
94-2001 Integra LS, GS or GSR
S2000
If you guys were going to start with something as a base unit.. how would you rate these. Based off looks, I like the 99-2000 Civic Si, S2000 is a vert (don't much care for those but they have great engines)
So right now I'm just looking at what body style to get, if I went off looks I would go with the (Prelude.. cough) Si... but as far as potential performance, I have no clue.
They guy also mentioned taking the block from the H23 and mixing it with (something) from the H22a VTEC... again, I'm new to all this but I'll catch on quick. Just need some guidance.
And if anyone calls me a noob and to "search the forums", I"ll buy a plane ticket and see you on your front porch
Joking, just be gentle with me.. I'm the new guy.
Thanks,
-BJ

So I take it by the lack of responses that I should not buy a Honda or Acura?
Is there another model that I have not listed that would be a better option? I'm 33 so I would like a nice car... not a hatchback that has all the carpet ripped out and the back seats removed just to lose weight.

Sorry for no one answering. My .02! I drive a 91 civic sedan. Swapped a b16a1 into it. I personally love this car for multiple reasons. You can do anything to it, its lightweight, cheap to work on, and parts are endless. I just put on some koni yellows, eibachs, xxr rims with 225/45/15 hankook ventus rs-3s, and I almost keep up with my buddys EVO. But really its up to you. People will always suggest the car they drive. And regardless what model or year you choose, you'll be happy with your decision. 1+ for 91 civic sedan!
If you're going to the strip, then ask this question in the Drag Racing forum, where it would be appropriate. Otherwise, this thread is wasting space.
And any car can be made to beat a 300hp Mustang, if modified appropriately. Any car is a valid choice, they'll just all have different costs and approaches to get to the goal. There is no correct answer, so no one should try and provide one.
Hondas and Acuras are great cars to have. They get great gas mileage, can be persoanlized to ANYONES liking and the aftermarket for parts is HUGE. they are cheap, light and can make good power with modding. They also last FOREVER if taken care of.
Just to maybe give you my experience. I personally have a 97 Civic with a 00 Si Front clip. Bought the car for $3,000 from a friend needing some work but driving condition. it already had the fresh GSR Swap, coilovers, new drags and new tires. i got a deal i think
Love the car but also hate the car...It gets good gas mileage but not super good. 25 mpg is ALL i see but this is turboed and I have a GSR tranny which is shorter geared. The car is light, handles like a go cart and got plenty of power so its pretty fun. BUT..the turbo setup I installed is cheap($900 plus all the extras needed $1000 or so), I have some oil leaks, likely several boost leaks and the list of issues is growing it seems. The fun is slipping away FAST. PERSONALLY wish I had never boosted it. It had a fesh GSR swap and had plenty of power for my use anyways but the parts were there and we aew hotrodders so we couldnt resist. Here are the mods
97 GSR B18C1 and GSR trans swap
CxRacing Turbo Kit 60 trim on 8lbs
EBay P28 chipped to order from DIYTUNING.com
Full MSD Ignition (Box, dizzy, wires)
DSM 450cc Injectors
Ebay testpipe with Megan Racing catback
Walboro 255
The power is fun. Feels strong for what it is. Should have no issues with a 300hp heavier car as this combo should roughyl be 250+ maybe even 300 itsself. idk
The car is dumped on adjustable coilovers, rides nice and LOWWW and can even go lower. I get lots of looks but most of all it rides very sporty (im used to mustangs and trucks myself). I have Drag wheels on it. it looks sweet and is hella fun to drive. but like I said above unless you have the money to do the turbo stuff RIGHT with quality stuff and DONT TAKE short cuts...Id stay N/A.

FTFY.

I not only asked if I could get a Prelude to beat a Mustang... I also asked if the Prelude would be able to compete with the local Civics, or is a Preluded just too heavy?
Anyway, thanks to everyone else who provided an answer. Issue is, Civics are a dime a dozen, they are everywhere. Mustangs are almost as bad. I don't want what everyone has, so I'm going in a totally different direction.
I just bought a 1996 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo ... they are rare, especially the one I just got, only 66K miles and silver.

Good luck... half of the turboed cars on here will walk that car. Tuner was trying to tell you that you are posting in the wrong forum and that is why nobody was answering you... for the same reason we don't respond to any of the other troll posts on here. So since this thread was a complete waste of time for all parties involved, I see a lock coming soon. Have fun trolling the Nissan forums.
