1993 accord low idle or stall
hey guys just want to start by saying im new not only to this site but also to the honda scene.so now to the fun part, about 2 days ago my 1993 accord started either bogging down or stalling when i am slowing down to make a turn or just coming to a stop. when i press the clutch in and hit the throttle it makes a loud sucking noise and takes a few pumps before it responds!any help would be very appreciated and welcomed!!!
thank you for the reply, im going to check that later on. any suggestions on how to clean it as in what kind of cleaner? and also i forgot to mention right before this started it would stumble a little every so often while driving! when i bought the car last week the previous owner said the timing belt and balance shaft belt was just replaced wondering if timing is out?
there two bolts holding the iacv on. just remove them and you should see the aluminum filter. just spray enough to make it clean. people do spray inside the iacv but that tends to cause more problems than it fixes so its best to keep fluid out of the iacv ad much ad possible.

thank you again! im going to go to the auto parts store later today and get some cleaner . also i ran into a friend today who has a 1990 accord he suggested bleeding the cooling system,so he said if there is air in the lines it makes the car run funny? so i think i'll try that too!
i forgot to mention the car has 214,000 plus miles on it.it had an oil leak in the dizzy so i replaced the inner seal inside of it and there is alot of oil inside the spark plug wells as well!you think maybe that might cause the problem?
That could be a problem but normally that would cause drivability issues at all times instead of when slowing down. What you're describing in the original post is usually iacv related.

hey guys just got around to cleaning the iacv and no better. i drove it around a little and still stalling out. so i bled the cooling system no air bubbles came out so i don't think thats the problem. i'm have no idea what it could be. oh by the way the car runs at about 700-800 rpm at idle is that normal?
Your idle is low because you aren't sending enough air into your engine. check your vacuum hoses to see if they are damaged. Happened to me in my 95 EX

If your exhaust has the original, or a worn out oxygen sensor on it, it might be in the early stages of acting up and causing driveability problems. A bad O2 sensor bogs the car due to sending bad data to the computer, which sends bad data to the IACV and ultimately leads to a bad air/fuel ratio and poor running. The gulp or sucking might be due to combustion being unbalanced when it's happening. Not sure about it happening only when you're slowing down, but if it is the o2, it will get worse and worse until it happens anytime, even at highway speeds, where it will manifest as what feels like a bad engine knock and gradual loss of acceleration. Unfortunately, on OBD1 the out of spec O2 sensor won't always put a code in the computer to light the check engine light.
There are 5 things you have to clean at the same time. Does not help doing one without the other.
First, Clean your Fast Idle Valve Assembly.
Second, Clean the IACV valve. You can do this without removing the entire valve. Dont loose O rings.
Third, Fast Idle Valve Assembly.
Fourth, clean your EGR and replace gasket. This includes cleaning and sucking out carbon out of the two ports.
Last but not least...Clean your Throttle Body Intake and test your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Its an easy test takes 2 mins with a Volt meter.
Lots of info on You Tube on how to do! Good luck.

i cleaned the throttlebody and drove itaround the block still stalling so i inspected the oxygen sensor looks like original very burnt and rusty looking. i put some more gas in it and now its not stalling anymore thing is the guage said i had a little more than 1/8 of a tank before i put gas in it? the car is running a little rough still but no stalling any ideas?
I'm having a similar problem with my 2000 civic ex. The cel came on and I took it to a mechanic. He said the code was for a problem with the catalytic converter. I was wondering if a dirty iacv could cause this to happen? It has 143,000, and I know jack **** about cars.
Whwen was the last time you changed the timming belt? Oddly enough mine had not ben changed for over 300,000 km (Not a typo). That was the root cause of all my isssues. Had my belt changed and runs great again.
